Perlisten X3w On-Wall Speaker

The Perlisten X3w is a compact on-wall speaker built around the same 38mm silk dome tweeter and carbon fiber driver hardware as the rest of the X-Series, arranged in a two-way configuration with dual 5.5" woofers flanking the tweeter. It sits between the single-woofer X2w and the four-woofer X5w: the second woofer lifts sensitivity to 89dB and tightens the horizontal pattern over the X2w, without the X5w's 740mm cabinet height.

About Perlisten Audio

Perlisten is a Wisconsin-based speaker company founded by engineers from the pro-audio and home-theater worlds. Controlled horizontal and vertical dispersion is the design goal on every Perlisten speaker rather than a by-product, and the X-Series was held back until it measured the way the rest of the line does. The X-Series brings Perlisten's controlled-dispersion waveguide approach to on-wall and in-ceiling formats without the usual architectural-speaker compromises.

MTM Layout, Controlled Dispersion

The X3w places its tweeter between two 5.5" woofers, a configuration known as MTM. When the drivers are crossed over correctly and the tweeter has proper directivity control, MTM gives you tight horizontal dispersion and a very consistent listening window across the height of the cabinet. That is exactly what you want in an on-wall speaker that will be mounted at a fixed height, often slightly above or below ear level, because the sweet spot stays useful even when you move within the room. The waveguide keeps the top end on-axis rather than splashing off the ceiling or the floor.

Carbon Fiber Woofers, Sealed Cabinet

The X3w runs two 5.5" carbon fiber woofers in a sealed, 2-way acoustic suspension cabinet. A sealed design trades some low-end extension for a tighter, more damped low-frequency roll-off, which is generally the right tradeoff for an on-wall speaker where ports would have nowhere useful to go and a loose low end would boom near corners or under a soffit.

Designed for Stereo, LCR, or Immersive Front Stages

The X3w works as a stereo pair flanking a TV or display, as the front left and right in an LCR where an X3w or X5w anchors the center, or as part of an immersive front and surround array. Every X-Series on-wall uses the same 38mm silk dome tweeter, so mixing X-Series sizes across channels keeps the tonal character of the top end consistent. Pair with a Perlisten subwoofer to fill in below 60Hz.

Build and Installation

The cabinet is 450mm tall, 200mm wide, and 100mm deep, and it weighs 9kg. The included wall bracket handles vertical mounting. The angle bracket lets you toe the speaker slightly toward the listening position when the layout calls for it. Both Satin Black and Satin White finishes are low-sheen so the speaker does not throw back projector reflections or pick up room glare.

The grille is a replacement part rather than a fixed piece of the speaker. A Satin White cabinet ships with a white grille and a Satin Black one with black, but either can be ordered on its own, so you can mix a black grille onto a white speaker or swap out a grille that has picked up dirt.

How the X-Series On-Walls Are Built

The cabinet is aluminum on the sides and the back, with an injection-molded baffle on the front. Perlisten builds every on-wall X-Series model this way, and the enclosure is sealed, which is why the low end stops cleanly instead of loosening up against a wall.

The grille sitting over the woofer is not a cover. It is part of the waveguide. Perlisten tuned the hole size and hole spacing on every model individually, because the grille changes the impedance the woofer sees and how much the cone can travel, and the crossover has to be designed around it.

The Perlisten logo on the grille is a magnet. Lift it off and reposition it so the badge still reads correctly when the speaker is mounted horizontally.

How to Mount the X-Series

The mounting plate levels and screws to the wall first, then the speaker hooks onto the plate and sits flat against it. Perlisten's animation below runs through the sequence.

The bracket goes up first and gets levelled on its own, so the speaker is level before it is ever lifted into place. It then slides onto four posts and is held with four screws. Plastic caps are in the box to cover those four screw points, matched to the finish, which matters if you run the speakers without grilles.

A fixed 15-degree angle bracket is also included. It tilts in one direction rather than swivelling, so you rotate the bracket itself to aim the speaker: turned one way it toes in, turned another it points up or down for a speaker mounted low or high. If you use it, the angle bracket mounts to the wall first, then the four-post bracket, then the speaker. The pattern is not VESA.

Matching the X-Series With Other Perlisten Speakers

Every X-Series model shares the same tweeter and woofer hardware, so Perlisten designed the line to be mixed. Larger models across the front, smaller ones for surrounds, the X2ic overhead: any combination holds one voice, and Perlisten's measurements across the line show the same response shape from model to model.

The X-Series also voices with the A-Series, which was the starting point for its large waveguide, and with the R-Series, which uses a silk dome of its own. The S-Series is the exception. Its beryllium tweeter is a different top end, so an S-Series front stage is not the one to extend with X-Series surrounds.

Where the X-Series Fits

The X-Series is a near-field design, engineered for a normal viewing setup: a display, seating at a sensible distance, and speakers on the wall around it. In that role it measures like the rest of the Perlisten line, which is the entire point of the series.

Pairing the X3w With a Subwoofer

Perlisten builds the X-Series to run with a subwoofer and recommends crossing over between 80 and 100Hz. Below 100Hz the roll-off is deliberately the same shape on every X-Series model, and Perlisten counts on the room adding 10 to 12dB back below that point, so the handoff to a subwoofer behaves predictably and calibration software has an easy target to work with.
