Grado Labs has been building headphones and phono cartridges by hand in Brooklyn, New York since 1953. Four generations of the Grado family have refined their patented moving iron design, a flux-bridger system that delivers the speed and detail of a moving coil with the output and compatibility of a moving magnet. Every cartridge is assembled, tested, and voiced in the same building where the company started over seven decades ago.
The current cartridge lineup spans three series. The Prestige Series uses elliptical diamond styli and OCC copper coils for reliable, musical playback from $140 to $260. The Timbre Series steps up to wood-bodied housings with matched cantilever designs from $300 to $1,500. The Lineage Series represents the pinnacle: Brazilian Ebony housings, nude Shibata diamonds, and sapphire or boron cantilevers from $3,500 to $9,995.
