Can the 30.7x work in a smaller room?

Magnepan's Wendell Diller maintains that the 30.7x can perform in modestly sized rooms, and reviewers have confirmed good results in spaces as small as 15x20 feet. However, the four-panel system (two panels per channel, each about 6.5 feet tall) has a significant physical footprint. The key is maintaining proper distance between the listener and the panels so the individual driver sections blend seamlessly. In a smaller room, placement becomes more critical but the results can still be spectacular.

How do you set up the 30.7x four-panel system?

Each channel of the 30.7x consists of two panels: a wider bass/midbass panel and a narrower midrange/high-frequency panel with the True Ribbon Tweeter. The tweeter panel must not be closer to the listener than the bass panel. Start with the panels 4-5 feet from the front wall, spaced about 8 feet apart, and adjust in 6-inch increments. The goal is for both panels per channel to merge into a single, coherent sound source from the listening position.

What amplifier power is needed for the 30.7x?

The 30.7x demands premium amplification with serious current reserves. A minimum of 300 watts per channel into 4 ohms is recommended, with monoblock configurations preferred.
