The Magnepan CCRx is a reference center channel speaker designed to anchor a Magnepan home theater system. Built on the same planar magnetic technology found in the 20.7x and 3.7x, the CCRx features a curved True Ribbon tweeter and quasi-ribbon midrange, both upgraded with the full X-Series treatment. Inside the CCRx: X-Series Engineering

The X-Series treatment overhauls the CCRx crossover network with the same obsessive attention to component quality found in the floorstanding models. This isn't a small tweak. It's a ground-up rebuild of everything between the binding posts and the drivers.

Better Capacitors
Every capacitor in the crossover network is made from copper-rich polypropylene and individually tested to within a fraction of a percent. Each capacitor bank is built, tested, and re-tested until the left and right channels match within tight tolerances. The result: precise imaging, smooth frequency response, and consistent performance.

Better Coils and Wiring
The CCRx crossover uses air-core, bobbin-wound copper coils made in-house at Magnepan, tested for inductance, resistance, and Q factor to tight tolerances. All internal wiring is 15-gauge solid copper with shortened signal paths. Every connection (except the terminal screw) is silver-soldered for a clean, uninterrupted signal path.

What Magnepan speakers does the CCRx pair with?

The CCRx is designed to accompany the 20.7x and 3.7x as a center channel, though it works with any Magnepan system. It uses the same True Ribbon Tweeter found in those models, ensuring timbre matching across all front channels. For surrounds, Magnepan's on-wall models complete the system.

Can the CCRx be wall mounted?

The CCRx has 1/4"-20 T-nuts built into the bottom for custom mounting solutions. It can sit on a cabinet, credenza, shelf, or be mounted using brackets attached to those T-nuts. The CCRx also offers an optional CC Speaker Stand, which includes a built-in DWM bass driver using 20.1/20.7 technology for integrated bass management.

Do I need a subwoofer with the CCRx?

Without the optional CC Speaker Stand (which has a built-in DWM bass driver), adjustable bass management is necessary. The CCRx on its own does not extend into deep bass territory. A subwoofer or the Magnepan DWM bass panel handles the low frequencies, with your A/V receiver's bass management set to route LFE content appropriately.

What is the difference between the CCRx and the older CCR?

The CCRx receives the full X-Series treatment: overhauled crossover with upgraded capacitors, precision-matched coils, silver-soldered connections, and tighter component tolerances. It also includes the Listening Room exclusive upgrades: Audio Research binding posts, custom 3D-printed base plates, and enhanced QC with tighter driver matching. How should I position the CCRx for best performance?

The CCRx uses a curved quasi-ribbon midrange (213 square inches of radiating area) that requires proper angling relative to the listener. The adjustable foot allows tilt adjustment for optimal sound when the speaker sits above or below ear level. Correct phasing requires the speaker to be angled so its output reaches the listening position at the right time relative to the main speakers. Experiment with tilt angle while playing dialog-heavy content.

Can the CCRx be used as a freestanding stereo speaker?

While the CCRx is designed as a center channel, its True Ribbon Tweeter and quasi-ribbon midrange make it a capable freestanding speaker for smaller spaces or near-field listening. However, it lacks the bass extension of Magnepan's full-range models, so a subwoofer or DWM bass panel would be needed for full-range music reproduction.
