The .7 is the same architecture as the LRS+ but scaled up. The larger the panel, the more air it can move with less excursion. Larger is better because the driver has more headroom and can play louder before distorting.

There is no .7i. There is only MG .7 and MG .7X.

It uses the same driver design but with upgraded crossover components: copper-rich polypropylene capacitors matched to 0.005% tolerance, bobbin-wound copper coils tested to the thousandths, 15-gauge solid copper wiring, and all silver-soldered connections. The result is tighter imaging, lower distortion, and more precise left/right channel balance.

Do I need a subwoofer with the Magnepan .7x?

It depends on your music and expectations. The .7x reaches down to 45Hz, which handles most acoustic and vocal music well. For rock, electronic, or home theater with deep bass demands, adding a subwoofer like the Magnepan DWM bass panel fills out the bottom end while maintaining the speed and coherence of planar bass.
