The Magnepan .7 is a full-range, quasi-ribbon planar-magnetic speaker. Like every Maggie, it starts with a single sheet of Mylar suspended in a magnetic field, and the whole panel makes the sound, not cones in a box. That is where the see-through midrange and the big, room-filling soundstage come from. The .7 is the full Magnepan panel, sized to fit and easy to place wherever you listen.
CNET's Audiophiliac named the .7 a Speaker of the Year, praising its "see-through transparency, awe inspiring soundstage depth, and treble purity." As the largest Magnepan dealer in the United States, The Listening Room builds every .7 to order in your choice of finish, and when Magnepan has your fabric and trim combination on hand, it ships quickly.
The Magnepan .7 is a two-way quasi-ribbon dipole rated at 4 ohms and 86dB sensitivity (2.83V). Instead of pushing air with cones in a cabinet, a large diaphragm suspended in a magnetic field radiates sound from both sides of the panel. The result is low stored energy, quick transients, and the open, unboxed presentation Magnepan is known for. Like every Magnepan, the .7 rewards a strong, current-capable amplifier; give it real power and it comes alive.
The Magnepan .7 measures 15.25 inches wide, 54.25 inches tall, and 1.25 inches deep, a slim panel that fits the kind of rooms most people actually listen in. As a dipole it radiates front and back, so it rewards a few feet of space between the panel and the wall behind it. From a compact room to a larger living space, it works wherever you can give it a little room to breathe.
The Magnepan .7 reaches down to 45Hz from its panel, which covers most music in small to mid-size rooms. Like any panel this size, it stays lean in the lowest octave rather than thumping, and the bass it does make is fast and coherent because it comes from the same panel as the mids and highs. For more low-end weight in larger rooms, the matching DWM Bass Panel extends the bottom end while keeping the dipole character. We also pair Magnepan with Perlisten subwoofers often, since their fast, articulate drivers blend cleanly with a planar rather than fighting its speed.
The Magnepan .7 is built to order in four grille fabrics (Black, Off-White, Cherry White, and Gray) and five side-trim finishes (Natural Oak, Black Oak, Dark Cherry, Black Aluminum, and Silver Aluminum). That gives 20 combinations, from an all-black panel that hides in a media wall to natural oak rails that warm up a living space.

All of this results in a boxless “airiness” to the sound and a naturalness of timbre that allow acoustic instruments to shine.
,The Absolute Sound · February 2015
The .7 may in fact be the ultimate speaker for audiophiles seeking maximum transparency in small rooms.
,CNET · May 2015
