An X-traordinary Leap in Sound. Meet the Magnepan CCRx.

When it comes to sound reproduction, the Magnepan CCRx doesn’t just raise the bar—it redefines it. Born from the legacy of the revered CCR and meticulously re-engineered as part of the exclusive X-Series, this speaker is what happens when Magnepan asks, "What if we didn’t compromise at all?"

The result? A speaker that turns every listening session into a front-row experience. With enhanced components, refined crossovers, and obsessive attention to driver balance, the CCRx offers jaw-dropping clarity, tighter control, and sound so vivid you’ll wonder if your favorite band set up in your living room.

If you're looking for a speaker that embodies excellence, precision, passion, and that just-right mix of scientific obsession and musical soul, the CCRx is your match.

X-treme Engineering: What Makes the CCRx Different than the CCR?

Magnepan's CCRx is a bold evolution from the CCR, and you’ll hear it the moment the music begins. The X-Series treatment overhauls the crossover network, capacitors, and resistors for improved energy flow and more precise driver integration. This isn't just a small upgrade—it's a meticulous overhaul.

Better Capacitors (Yes, It Matters!)
Capacitors are the unsung heroes of sound quality, and the CCRx doesn’t mess around. Every capacitor in the crossover network is made from copper-rich polypropylene and individually tested to within a fraction of a percent. Each capacitor bank is built, tested, and re-tested until Magnepan’s engineers are 100% confident they’ll match perfectly between the left and right channels. The result? Flawless imaging, precise detail, and a smooth frequency response from top to bottom.

Magnepan X-Series Capacitors

Better Coils (Inductors, But Cooler)
The CCRx’s crossover uses air-core, bobbin-wound copper coils made in-house at Magnepan. Unlike the generic "off-the-shelf" inductors you’ll find in other speakers, these coils are tested for inductance, resistance, and “Q value” (that’s coil-speak for "how good it is") to absurdly tight tolerances. Once they’re soldered onto the crossover board, they’re tested again to ensure the left and right channels are perfectly balanced. More precision means less distortion, better energy flow, and pinpoint instrument placement.

Better Resistors (Why Resistors Matter)
Not all Magnepan models use resistors, but for the 3.7x, they’re a necessity. Instead of using one large resistor, Magnepan splits it into two smaller, parallel resistors. This allows for tighter control, more stability, and less heat buildup. Each pair of resistors is tested and matched to within five-thousandths of a percent (yes, thousandths). The result? Every CCRx sounds identical, whether you’re in New York, Tokyo, or Paris.

Better Wiring (Shorter, Cleaner, Copper-ier)
Here’s something you’ll love if you’re a purist. All internal wiring on the CCRx is 15-gauge solid copper—no flimsy, mass-market wire here. The crossover layout has been redesigned to reduce excess wire, shorten signal paths, and remove unnecessary connections. Less wire = less resistance = better sound. Every connection (except for the terminal screw) is silver-soldered, giving the signal a clean, uninterrupted path from source to speaker. Translation? Pure, uncolored sound.

Better Connections (This is Love)
Every connection point in the CCRx is built to be as solid as possible. No loose, crimped connections here. From the crossover to the driver, everything is locked, soldered, and secured.

Better Materials (It’s What’s Inside That Counts)
From the nameplate components to the capacitors, coils, and wiring, only three metals are allowed inside the CCRx: copper, silver, and gold. Why? Because they conduct electricity better, last longer, and sound cleaner. No shortcuts, no cheap materials, no compromises.

The Listening X-perience

You know that feeling you get when a live performance hits you right in the chest? That's the CCRx. The hallmark of planar magnetic technology is its ability to create a wide, open soundstage where every instrument has its place. But with the CCRx, you get laser-sharp imaging, richer textures, and lifelike presence. Close your eyes, and you’re at the concert.

What makes it different from the CCR? The CCRx delivers even more clarity, especially in the high-end detail, thanks to tighter tolerances and superior crossover components. Subtle musical details—like the scrape of a bowstring or the shimmer of a cymbal—are clearer and more distinct. Bass hits harder but never gets muddy, while midrange warmth feels like a cozy, well-worn blanket.

Discover the Magneplanar CCRx, a reference center channel speaker designed to accompany the MG 20.7x or MG 3.7x. The CCR is ideal for those seeking an immersive home theater experience by delivering clear dialogue and imaging while integrating seamlessly with your existing Magnepan system. Utilizing the same advanced technology found in the 20.7, the CCR features a true ribbon tweeter and quasi ribbon midrange for accurate and lifelike audio performance.

Key Features

  • True Ribbon Tweeter: The CCRx incorporates a true ribbon tweeter, like the MG 20.7, but curved, delivering crisp, transparent highs.
  • Curved Quasi Ribbon Midrange: The curved quasi ribbon midrange provides 213 square inches of radiating area, offering natural and balanced midrange sound.
  • Higher Efficiency: Designed for the increased demands of home theater, the CCR ensures higher efficiency for consistent performance.
  • Seamless Integration: Works perfectly with Magnepan's front speakers or DWM Bass Panels for full-range sound in your home theater system.
  • Compact Reference Design: A compact yet powerful speaker that provides state-of-the-art audio without the need for a large radiating area.
Design and Build

The Magnepan CCR is engineered to be a reference-quality center channel speaker, making it an ideal companion to the MG 20.7x or MG 3.7x. The CCR features a true ribbon tweeter and a curved quasi ribbon midrange to ensure a coherent soundstage. The curved design of the tweeter and midrange allows the speaker to deliver excellent dispersion and imaging, creating an immersive experience that locks dialogue to the screen.

The CCR is designed to overcome the constraints often imposed by home theater setups, where the available space and height for the center channel are dictated by the video display. Despite these limitations, Magnepan's advanced planar magnetic technology ensures the CCR delivers exceptional audio clarity and performance. Unlike other center channel speakers that use dynamic midbass couplers, the CCR maintains consistent tonality across the frequency spectrum, achieving a balanced sound without compromise.

Performance

The CCR is built to handle the critical role of the center channel in a home theater system, which typically carries 60-70% of the audio content, including dialogue. The true ribbon tweeter ensures that high frequencies remain clear and precise, while the quasi ribbon midrange provides warmth and naturalness to vocals and effects. This combination results in a center channel speaker that can reproduce even the most demanding movie soundtracks with accuracy and detail.

While the CCR is not intended to match the sheer scale of the MG 20.7x, it is specifically designed to complement the larger Magnepan models, delivering impactful and precise audio that brings films to life. The CCR's higher efficiency means it can keep up with the demands of dynamic movie soundtracks, ensuring a consistent, high-quality performance.

Technology

The Magnepan CCR leverages advanced planar magnetic technology, similar to that used in the MG 20.7x and MG 3.7x. The true ribbon tweeter and curved quasi ribbon midrange work together to deliver an expansive soundstage with accurate imaging. The 213 square inches of radiating area for the midrange driver ensures balanced and rich audio reproduction, while the ribbon tweeter delivers transparent highs. This combination provides a seamless listening experience that integrates well with the front speakers and bass panels for a complete home theater solution.

Versatility and Compatibility

The Magnepan CCR is compatible with a variety of home theater configurations, making it an ideal choice for those who want a reference-quality center channel without compromising on space. It pairs with Magnepan's front speakers or DWM Bass Panels to create a soundstage that envelops listeners in detailed, immersive audio. Its compact design also allows for flexible placement, overcoming the challenges often posed by limited space in home theater systems.
