The Oracle Audio Paris Tonearm is a 9-inch gimbal-bearing arm built around a single-piece conical carbon fiber tube, four ABEC7 ball races in an inverted bearing assembly, and Oracle's proprietary Micro Vibration Stabiliser silicone damping system. With an effective mass of 8.5g and supplied counterweights covering cartridges from 3g to 15g, the Paris handles everything from high-compliance moving magnets to low-compliance moving coils. It was designed for the Oracle Paris turntable but fits other Oracle platforms as well.
The Paris is the middle of Oracle's three-arm lineup, and it's where Oracle's engineering starts to separate from the pack. The conical carbon fiber tube eliminates standing wave reflections that straight tubes create, and the Micro Vibration Stabiliser adds fluid damping on top of the carbon fiber's natural resonance control. That's two layers of vibration management before the signal reaches the wiring. At $1,255, the Paris competes with arms from Rega, Pro-Ject, and Jelco, but the combination of ABEC7 bearings, conical geometry, and silicone damping is unusual at this price. We recommend it to Paris turntable owners looking for the arm that was designed for their deck, and to Delphi owners who want a significant upgrade from the Origine without stepping up to the $6,000 Reference.
Key Features of the Oracle Paris Tonearm
- Single-Piece Conical Carbon Fiber Arm Tube: Tapered design eliminates standing wave reflections and provides high rigidity with low effective mass
- Inverted Gimbal Bearing: Four hardened ABEC7 ball races for precise, low-friction movement in both planes
- Micro Vibration Stabiliser: Oracle's proprietary silicone fluid damping with a paddle-and-trough mechanism that absorbs tonearm resonances
- 8.5g Effective Mass: Low enough for medium and high-compliance cartridges while stable with lower-compliance designs
- Multiple Counterweight Options: Supplied weight covers 6-10g cartridges, with optional weights for 3-6g, 5-8g, and 10-15g ranges
- Azimuth Adjustment: Single-screw fixing allows arm tube rotation for precise alignment
- High-Grade Copper Internal Wiring: Low-resistance signal path from headshell to output
- Adjustable VTA: Solid arm base permits accurate height adjustment for vertical tracking angle
Conical Carbon Fiber Arm Tube
The Paris uses a single-piece conical carbon fiber arm tube that tapers from a wider diameter at the bearing housing to a narrower diameter at the headshell. This geometry prevents standing wave reflections within the tube. In a straight, uniform tube, vibrations bounce between the ends, creating resonances that color the signal. The conical shape breaks up these reflections by continuously changing the cross-section along its length. Carbon fiber contributes high stiffness relative to its weight, so the tube resists flexing under groove modulation forces without adding unnecessary mass. The result is an effective mass of 8.5g, low enough for medium and high-compliance cartridges while remaining controlled with stiffer designs.
Inverted Bearing Assembly
The bearing system uses an inverted design with four hardened ball races manufactured to ABEC7 specification, a precision grade that defines tight tolerances on ball roundness, surface finish, and dimensional consistency. This translates to extremely low friction and virtually zero play in the assembly. The inverted orientation places the bearing's center of gravity below the pivot point, contributing to stability during tracking. The gimbal configuration constrains the arm to move freely in two planes (horizontal for tracking across the record, vertical for following warps) while preventing unwanted rotation. This is fundamentally different from unipivot designs, trading the unipivot's freedom of movement for directional stability.
Micro Vibration Stabiliser Damping System
Oracle's proprietary Micro Vibration Stabiliser is a paddle-and-trough mechanism mounted to the underside of the arm. A paddle attached to the arm tube dips into a trough filled with silicone fluid. As the cartridge traverses from outer groove to inner, the paddle moves through the fluid, converting mechanical vibration into heat. This viscous damping works across a broad frequency range, absorbing micro-vibrations that travel up through the arm tube from the stylus-groove interface. Unlike purely mechanical damping (which tends to be frequency-specific), fluid damping provides consistent energy absorption regardless of vibration frequency. The system works alongside the carbon fiber tube's natural damping, addressing resonances at two points in the chain.
Cartridge Matching and Counterweight System
The Paris ships with a counterweight for cartridges in the 6-10g range, covering the majority of popular moving magnet and moving coil designs. Optional counterweights are available for 3-6g, 5-8g, and 10-15g cartridge weights, ensuring proper balance with virtually any cartridge on the market. The 18mm overhang and 212mm mounting distance establish the geometric relationship to the record surface. Azimuth adjustment uses a single-screw fixing that allows the arm tube to rotate for perpendicular stylus alignment. VTA is adjustable through the solid arm base for matching the cartridge manufacturer's recommended stylus rake angle.
Output and Wiring Options
Internal wiring uses high-grade copper conductors from headshell pins to the output connection. The Paris is available with three output configurations: a 5-pole standard socket for use with a separate phono cable, flying leads for direct connection, or a terminal with RCA sockets and an earth screw. The headshell uses a standard 12.7mm (1/2 inch) mounting, compatible with the vast majority of phono cartridges.
Explore the Oracle Audio Tonearm and Turntable Range
