Description
Description
The Ruark Audio Talisman-R is a two-way floorstanding speaker that brings full-range sound to rooms where a big traditional tower would take over. It stands 850mm tall on a slim steel plinth and reaches down to 40Hz, so you get real floor-standing weight without the bulk of a large box. This is Ruark's first floorstander in nearly two decades, built around a decoupled baffle that keeps the cabinet quiet while the drivers do the work.
Key Features of the Talisman-R
- Decoupled Baffle: The front panel mounts to the cabinet through elastomer bushes and extra damping, so driver energy never smears into the enclosure walls.
- 6.5" NS+ Woofer: A 17cm treated fibre cone on a 35mm two-layer copper voice coil, built for long, controlled excursion.
- 27mm Silk Dome Tweeter: A neodymium-motor dome tuned for an even, open top end.
- Reaches 40Hz: A dual-flared, tuned bass-reflex cabinet of just 14.5 litres, ported to 42Hz.
- 2nd-Order Crossover at 2.2kHz: Premium audio film capacitors and low-loss inductors.
- Integrated Steel Plinth: A stable base and a floating look, with no separate stands to buy or match.
- Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp Ready: Two pairs of gold-plated 4mm multi-way binding posts per speaker.
- 87dB Sensitivity, 50 to 250W: An easy 6-ohm load that still scales with a better amplifier.
- Two Real Finishes: Fused Walnut veneer or Satin Charcoal lacquer, each with a mottled fabric grille.
- Made by Ruark in the UK: Designed and engineered in England.
The Ruark Talisman-R Revives a 1990 Original
Ruark Acoustics was founded in 1985 by father and son Brian and Alan O'Rourke, working out of a small unit in Rayleigh, Essex. In 1990 they released the original Talisman, a sloped-baffle floorstander built as the antithesis to the plain rectangular boxes of the day. It became the speaker that defined Ruark, known for a life-like sound that suited a wide range of amplifiers. The Talisman-R revives that name and that design-led thinking, now engineered in the UK for a modern room. Ruark is distributed in the United States through Fidelity Imports.
The Decoupled Baffle: Why the Talisman-R Stays Quiet
The Talisman-R fixes its front baffle to the cabinet through elastomer bushes and additional damping elements rather than a single rigid joint. That decoupling stops vibration from the drivers passing into the enclosure walls, which is what blurs detail on many speakers this size. The bolts you can see on the baffle are structural, not styling. Inside, the cabinet uses internal bracing and compound wadding to control resonance.
The NS+ Woofer and Silk Dome Tweeter
A 17cm (6.5") Ruark NS+ driver carries the bass and midrange on a treated fibre cone, a 35mm two-layer copper voice coil, and a Strontium ferrite motor for long, linear movement. Above 2.2kHz a 27mm silk dome tweeter with a neodymium motor takes over, voiced for an unforced top end. The two drivers meet through an optimized second-order crossover using premium audio film capacitors and low-loss inductors, so the handover stays clean.
40Hz From a Compact Cabinet
The Talisman-R tunes a 14.5-litre cabinet with a dual-flared bass-reflex port to 42Hz, giving in-room response down to 40Hz. That is genuine floorstander bass from a body only 210mm wide. The flared port geometry keeps air moving quietly at higher levels, so the low end stays tight instead of turning into port noise. A floorstander's internal volume is what lets it dig deeper than a standmount of the same driver size.
A Floorstander That Fits a Living Room
At 850mm tall and 210mm wide on its own steel plinth, the Talisman-R is made to live in a normal room, not only a dedicated listening space. The plinth gives it a floating look and a stable footprint, so there are no separate stands to buy or match to the cabinet. It comes in Fused Walnut veneer or Satin Charcoal lacquer, each finished with a mottled fabric grille that lifts off when you want to see the drivers.
Connections and Amplifier Matching
Each speaker carries two pairs of gold-plated 4mm multi-way binding posts, so you can single-wire, bi-wire, or bi-amp. Sensitivity is 87dB (2.83V at 1m) into a 6-ohm nominal load that dips to 3.8 ohms at 5kHz, and Ruark rates the Talisman-R for 50 to 250 watts. It is an easy load that most integrated amps will drive comfortably, and it keeps giving more as the amplifier improves.
Where the Talisman-R Fits in Ruark's Speaker Range
Ruark builds two passive hi-fi speakers. Here is how they compare so you can pick the right one for your room.
| Model | Price | Best for |
| Ruark Sabre-R | $999 / pair | A compact two-way standmount for smaller rooms or nearfield listening, on a shelf or a pair of stands. |
| Ruark Talisman-R You're viewing | $2,399 / pair | A floorstander with a 6.5" NS+ woofer and a larger tuned cabinet on an integrated steel plinth, reaching 40Hz with no stands to add. |
Choose the Sabre-R if you want Ruark's sound on a shelf or in a compact room. Step up to the Talisman-R for deeper, room-filling bass and a finished floor-standing look without buying stands. See both in Ruark Speakers and Subwoofers.
