Description
The Primare 928 Special Edition Monoblock Amplifier is a single-channel power amplifier built for Primare's 40th-anniversary 928 series. It uses a switch-mode supply for the output stage and a dedicated isolated linear supply for the input stage, and delivers 600 watts into 8 ohms, 1200 watts into 4 ohms, and 1400 watts peak. It shares the Porsche 928-inspired wedge chassis from Primare's original 1986 design and can be run singly or as a stereo pair.

Two Power Supplies, One Channel
The monoblock is where the 928 Special Edition reaches furthest. As Terry Medalen of Primare describes it: "Where things get really exciting is with the mono amplifier. It uses the same switch-mode power supply for the amp stage, but for the input stage we use a dedicated isolated linear power supply for the input stage alone."
Output
That architecture, paired with Hypex Ncore amplification, produces 600 watts into 8 ohms, 1200 watts into 4 ohms, and 1400 watts at peak. A pair of monoblocks gives each channel its own chassis, power supply, and amplifier, which is the traditional reason to step from a stereo amplifier up to monos.
Why the Wedge
The slanted profile is not styling for its own sake. The wedge shape lets Primare integrate and isolate the circuitry inside the chassis while keeping signal paths short, the same engineering logic that shaped the original 928.
More in the Primare 928 Special Edition Series
The 928 Special Edition is a full separates system. Feed these monoblocks with the 928 Special Edition Preamplifier, or consider the 928 Special Edition Stereo Amplifier for a single-chassis option.
