The D-Series has one of the best manual DSP systems available. It lets you correct the problems every single room has in the bass without introducing the drawbacks of applying DSP to the midrange or the treble.

Automated DSP systems often make poor choices because they do not understand what is happening in the room. Perlisten's system works best when you measure with REW using a calibrated microphone and then manually adjust the filters. With the D-Series, you can cross a Magnepan panel as high as 120hz and you will not be able to tell where the panel stops and the subwoofer starts.

The D215s achieves its remarkable performance through a push-pull driver configuration. Two massive 15-inch woofers are mounted in direct opposition, one firing forwards and the other internally. As they move, the reactive forces cancel out within the cabinet itself. This eliminates even-order harmonic distortion by 10-12dB compared to single-driver designs. The result is bass with vanishingly low second-harmonic distortion, where Audioholics measured that it "can't surpass 5% THD at any frequency" at 100dB drive levels. Carbon Fiber Driver Engineering

Each of the two 380mm drivers is built with a carbon fiber composite diaphragm, chosen for its exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio. Lighter and more rigid than paper, polypropylene, or aluminum, carbon fiber allows the cone to accelerate and decelerate faster, translating to tighter transient response on kick drums, string bass, and low-frequency effects. At the heart of the D215s is a 3.0-kilowatt amplifier governed by a 48-bit Texas Instruments DSP engine and a 32-bit ARM Cortex M4 processor. This is not brute force. The DSP monitors the drivers in real time, reacting in microseconds to keep them operating within their optimal range. The amplifier delivers staggering sound pressure levels down to 15Hz and below while maintaining composure. Above 40Hz, continuous output approaches 120dB. The sealed sub cannot be pushed past 10% distortion above 20Hz regardless of drive level, a direct result of the push-pull topology combined with intelligent amplifier limiting.

Sealed HDF Cabinet Construction

Perlisten chose a sealed (acoustic suspension) alignment over ported designs for a reason: speed and accuracy. Sealed cabinets produce tighter group delay, meaning bass notes start and stop with the music rather than ringing after the signal ends. The D215s cabinet is built from HDF (high-density fiberboard), which is denser and more inert than standard MDF, further reducing cabinet resonance. The front baffle is over 3 inches thick, and extensive internal bracing ensures the enclosure remains silent even at extreme output. The push-pull driver configuration adds another layer of vibration cancellation, as the opposing forces from the two drivers neutralize each other within the cabinet.

The interface gives you access to a 10-band parametric EQ, adjustable crossovers (bypass or 30-160Hz with 6/12/18/24dB per octave slopes), variable phase (0-270 degrees), polarity inversion, and three factory EQ presets: THX (flat, reference), Boost (extended to 15Hz at -6dB), and Cut (rolled off below 24Hz for rooms that don't need full extension). Should I get one D215s or two D212s?

One D215s delivers higher peak output from a single location, making it ideal for dedicated theater seats or constrained placement. Two D212s placed in different locations provide smoother bass across more seats through multi-sub room mode cancellation. If your priority is maximum output in a single listening position, the D215s wins. If you need even bass coverage for a room with multiple rows or seating areas, two D212s will smooth out the inevitable peaks and nulls that a single sub creates.

How do I move and set up a 202-pound subwoofer?
