Design and Build
The Orbe Turntable features a sophisticated design that combines aesthetic elegance with functional excellence. Dual high-density acrylic bases, separated by three pin points, create an efficient isolation platform that eliminates structural feedback. The weighted pendulum-style sub-chassis hangs from a three-point spring suspension system, offering a stable and dense platform for the main bearing, platter, and tonearm assembly. Solid aluminum feet with low contact areas minimize vibration transfer from supporting surfaces, while the free-standing motor unit, completely separate from the turntable, prevents motor-induced vibrations.
Performance
Delivering a large soundstage and engaging musicality, the Orbe unveils every nuance of your music collection with exceptional clarity and fidelity. The extra heavy impedance-matched platter, combined with the advanced power supply and motor control, ensures impeccable speed stability and minimizes wow and flutter. This results in a neutral, reference-quality sound that brings your vinyl records to life, allowing you to experience music as the artists intended.
Technology
At the core of the Orbe Turntable lies innovative technology designed to enhance every aspect of playback. The inverted oil circulating main bearing uses a modified Archimedean screw machined into the bearing's inner bore to draw oil from a reservoir at the base up to the thrust ball at the top, fully lubricating the bearing during rotation. This design eliminates noise and vibration caused by rotation, ensuring silent and smooth operation. The Orbe Controller Power Supply, featuring a large toroidal transformer and Never Connected™ circuitry with servo motor control technology, maintains precise platter speed by automatically adjusting output to correct any changes. The extra heavy 60 mm thick impedance-matched platter, crafted from vibration-damping material similar to vinyl, offers a neutral sound characteristic and increased mass for improved momentum. Dual-layer isolation and the three-point spring suspension system further isolate the turntable from external vibrations, enhancing overall sound purity.
Versatility and Compatibility
The Orbe Turntable is equipped with the TecnoArm 2, providing a high-precision tonearm that complements the Orbe’s performance capabilities for an exceptional listening experience. Its adjustable suspension system and screw-down Orbe record clamp allow for precise setup and optimization, accommodating a wide range of cartridges and audio configurations. This makes the Orbe a flexible choice that integrates seamlessly into high-end audio systems, offering audiophiles a tailored approach to achieving their ideal sound.
Orbe Bundle Includes
This Michell Orbe Turntable comes with the
- Hinged Lid: The Orbe turntable comes with a hinged clear acrylic lid to protect the turntable from dust and damage. The hinges are made in two parts that allow the lid to be easily removed if required.
- Orbe Record Clamp: The Orbe clamp is a screw-down design, which allows you to exert more force onto the vinyl when clamping it to the platter than the standard clamps allow. This further helps flatten warped and uneven vinyl and eliminate resonance in the vinyl disk.
Orbe Options
Tonearms Options
- Michell TecnoArm 2: The TecnoArm 2 is engineered for audiophile-level performance and exceptional value. Its custom one-piece arm tube is shot-blasted to reduce ringing and precision-drilled to minimize mass. Ultra-low friction polymer bearings and a redesigned mounting base enhance stability and precision. Wired with 99.9999% pure silver litz wire from cartridge tags to phono plugs, it ensures signal purity without internal wiring joints. The TecnoWeight counterweight system allows precise tracking force adjustment, while the VTA/SRA adjuster ensures accurate stylus alignment for optimal playback. Designed to compete with tonearms at significantly higher price points, the TecnoArm 2 is a standout choice for vinyl enthusiasts.
- Michell T8 Tonearm: The T8 Tonearm, developed in partnership with Audiomods, is crafted for audiophiles seeking uncompromising playback precision. Machined from a single billet for resonance control and structural integrity, it includes continuous silver internal wiring, stainless steel bearings, and fully adjustable VTA, azimuth, and anti-skate. The T8 is the perfect match for Michell's Orbe models, providing high-resolution detail and a mechanically superior platform for cartridge performance.
-
Rega RB3000: The Rega RB3000 is a high-precision tonearm built from a single-piece aluminum casting for rigidity and low-friction performance. Hand-polished and fitted with upgraded bearings, it delivers smooth tracking and refined detail retrieval. Its minimal-joint design reduces unwanted vibration, making it a strong match for listeners prioritizing clarity and tonal control.
Cartridge Options
- CUSIS E: The entry-level moving-coil cartridge from Michell Audio features an elliptical stylus and aluminium cantilever built into a rigid aluminium chassis. It offers notable value and good performance for its price, making it a strong choice for vinyl listeners upgrading from an older MM or starter MC.
- CUSIS E/H: A high-output version of the CUSIS E that retains the same body and construction but delivers higher output for use with MM phono stages. It gives flexibility in system compatibility without sacrificing the cartridge's fundamental design strengths.
- CUSIS S: A refined moving-coil cartridge that elevates the line with a Shibata stylus, boron cantilever and larger, vibration-controlled chassis. It offers more detail, deeper insight and wider frequency response than the entry models, making it a compelling option for serious analog systems.
- CUSIS M: The top of the range moving-coil from Michell Audio, built without cost constraints. It integrates a Microline stylus, high-precision generator, carbon-loaded acrylic body and large aluminium chassis to maximise detail, neutrality and dynamic capability. Ideal for listeners demanding reference-level vinyl performance.
