Description
Description
The Michell Orbe SE Turntable offers a reference-quality listening experience comparable to the flagship Orbe but in a smaller, more affordable package. By eliminating much of the expensive acrylic, the Orbe SE retains most of the Orbe's exceptional qualities while presenting a more compact and aesthetically pleasing design. For audiophiles seeking Orbe-class performance without the larger footprint, the Orbe SE is the perfect solution.
Key Features
- Low Contact Area Feet: Solid aluminum feet minimize contact with the supporting surface, reducing vibration transfer from furniture into the turntable.
- Three-Point Spring Suspension System: Three suspension towers fixed to the acrylic base hold the suspension springs and allow height adjustment for the sub-chassis.
- Inverted Oil Circulating Main Bearing: An inverted bearing design fully lubricates the bearing during platter rotation, eliminating noise and vibration.
- Extra Heavy Impedance-Matched Platter: The platter's material matches vinyl for neutral sound, with extra mass providing improved speed stability.
- Orbe Controller Power Supply: Uses a large toroidal transformer, Never Connected™ circuitry, and servo motor control for rock-solid speed stability.
- Bundle Includes: TecnoArm 2, record clamp, and cover.
Design and Build
The Orbe SE features a compact design by eliminating much of the expensive acrylic found in the full Orbe, resulting in a smaller footprint without compromising performance. Its spider double chassis with a weighted pendulum-style sub-chassis hangs on a three-point spring suspension system, providing a rigid and dense platform for the main bearing, platter, and tonearm assembly. The 60 mm thick extra heavy impedance-matched platter, made from vibration-damping material similar to vinyl, adds mass for improved speed stability. Finished in black or clear acrylic with black metal parts, the Orbe SE offers an aesthetically pleasing appearance that complements any audio setup.
Performance
Delivering a reference-quality listening experience, the Orbe SE reproduces music with exceptional clarity, dynamic range, and deep bass response. The extra mass of the impedance-matched platter enhances speed stability, minimizing wow and flutter for precise playback. Its design ensures neutral sound reproduction, allowing you to experience your vinyl records as the artists intended. The advanced Orbe controller power supply maintains rock-solid speed stability, ensuring consistent performance across all listening sessions.
Technology
The Orbe SE incorporates advanced technologies to achieve its superior performance. The inverted oil circulating main bearing places the point of rotation at the top of the assembly, allowing full lubrication during platter rotation. A modified Archimedean screw machined into the bearing's inner bore draws oil from a reservoir at the base up to the thrust ball at the top, eliminating noise and vibration caused by rotation. The Orbe controller power supply, featuring a large toroidal transformer, Never Connected™ circuitry, and servo motor control technology, ensures the platter always turns at the correct speed by automatically adjusting output to correct any changes in RPM. The free-standing motor unit is completely separate from the turntable, connected only by the drive belt, preventing motor-induced noise and vibrations from affecting playback. The Orbe screw-down record clamp allows greater force to be applied when clamping vinyl to the platter, further flattening warped records and eliminating resonance. Low contact area feet minimize vibration transfer from the supporting surface, enhancing overall sound quality.
Versatility and Compatibility
Versatility and Compatibility
The Orbe SE Turntable is equipped with the TecnoArm 2, providing a high-precision tonearm that complements the Orbe’s performance capabilities for an exceptional listening experience. Its adjustable suspension system and screw-down Orbe record clamp allow for precise setup and optimization, accommodating a wide range of cartridges and audio configurations. This makes the Orbe SE a flexible choice that integrates seamlessly into high-end audio systems, offering audiophiles a tailored approach to achieving their ideal sound.
