AVM Ovation MP 8.3 S Streaming Media Player

The AVM Ovation MP 8.3 S is a CD player and hi-res streamer with a tube output stage, built into one 43 cm aluminum chassis. A slot-in Pure CD transport, AVM's X-Stream Engine and the S-DAC with ESS 9038 PRO converters feed the tube stage, with HDMI ARC and four more digital inputs for your other sources.

The MP 8.3 S is the media player of AVM's Ovation S line. AVM's tube output stage handles every signal it plays, whether from a CD, a stream or an external digital source.

What Does the Tube Output Stage Do in the MP 8.3 S?

Every source the MP 8.3 S plays, whether a CD, a streaming service or an external digital input, goes through AVM's tube output stage. AVM credits the tubes with warmth and spaciousness. The tube illumination is customizable in RGB colors.

In AVM's measurements for the analog output, distortion is below 0.02% and the signal-to-noise ratio is above 98 dB, with a -3 dB frequency response from below 5 Hz to above 30 kHz. The line output runs at 2.5 V.

Pure CD Transport and S-DAC

The Pure CD transport loads by slot and plays CD Audio and CD-R discs to the Red Book standard. The converter is AVM's S-DAC module, built around the ESS 9038 PRO Double-Quad DAC with four DACs per channel, which plays PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD256.

AVM also sells the S-DAC module as an upgrade for earlier AVM components, the MP, CS and SD 6.3 and 8.3 models.

Streaming With the X-Stream Engine

The AVM X-Stream Engine covers Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect (MAX), AirPlay 2, Roon Ready, HighResAudio and internet radio, with Bluetooth 5.0 alongside. AVM RoomConneXion brings the MP 8.3 S into a whole-home multiroom setup. It connects by LAN or dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz), and you control it from the RC-X app or the included RC 5 remote.

HDMI ARC, Digital Inputs and Outputs

HDMI ARC brings a TV's sound into the MP 8.3 S, and four digital inputs (two coaxial, two optical) take other sources at up to 192 kHz/24-bit on coax and 96 kHz/24-bit on optical. USB-C takes audio from a Windows PC or Mac at up to DSD128 or 192 kHz/24-bit, and USB-A reads hard drives and USB sticks formatted FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS.

For analog connections the MP 8.3 S has RCA preamp and line outputs and an XLR output. Two digital outputs (coaxial and optical) can run at variable volume, and a trigger input and two 12 V trigger outputs switch other components on with it.

Silver, Brushed Black or Cellini Chrome

The MP 8.3 S comes in silver, brushed black, or as a Cellini version with a chrome fascia, all in AVM's screwless precision aluminum enclosure. It is built in Malsch with rigorous quality control and a multi-day burn-in period, and AVM ships every Ovation model in a robust AVM flight case.
