The new Opera Quinta V2 is a refined evolution of its predecessor, preserving the musical warmth Opera is known for while introducing meaningful technical upgrades. This 3-way floorstanding speaker reaches a new benchmark in sensitivity and clarity, thanks to revised geometry, custom-designed drivers from Scan-Speak, and meticulous cabinet and crossover work. Designed and built in Italy, the Quinta V2 delivers a full-range, room-filling sound that remains emotionally connected even at high SPLs.
Opera Quinta V2 Key Features
- 91 dB sensitivity: A major leap from the previous model’s 87–88 dB, offering greater dynamics and easier amplifier pairing
- Custom drivers developed with Scan-Speak: Two 180 mm aluminum woofers, a 150 mm fiberglass midrange, and a 26 mm soft dome tweeter
- Non-parallel cabinet geometry: Internally shaped to minimize standing waves and internal reflections
- Extremely low distortion: Drivers voiced for transparency and coherence across the full frequency range
- High-grade crossover: Mundorf capacitors and Vishay anti-inductive resistors preserve signal purity and ensure long-term stability
- Reflex port engineered for power: Tuned to avoid turbulence even at higher volumes
- Elegant Italian craftsmanship: Precision-machined cabinet and driver insets with a furniture-grade finish
Cabinet Design with Acoustic Intent
Opera treated the Quinta V2 cabinet like an instrument, not a box. Internal surfaces avoid parallel walls, and every proportion was tuned to reduce midrange reflections and standing waves. The result is a quieter cabinet that does less harm to the music. An accelerometer-based test system helped Opera measure and suppress structural noise until it dropped below ambient room levels. The front baffle is machined to reduce diffraction, and internal damping materials were chosen to kill reflections before they re-radiate through the driver cones.
Scan-Speak Collaboration and Driver Selection
All three driver types were purpose-built in partnership with Scan-Speak. The aluminum woofers deliver fast transients and excellent low-end control. The fiberglass midrange cone offers warmth and articulation, maintaining its character even under dynamic stress. The tweeter is a refined 26 mm soft dome, chosen for its ability to blend without bite and to resolve fine detail without glare. High-frequency resonance is so low that it surprised even Opera's team in early testing.
Crossover Design Focused on Listening
Rather than flatten the response on paper, Opera voiced the Quinta V2 crossover by ear. This is a speaker tuned by humans, not by math alone. The filter ensures smooth transitions between drivers and keeps phase behavior stable across the entire spectrum. High-quality Mundorf capacitors and Vishay resistors were selected not just for spec compliance, but for soundstage realism and long-term reliability. There’s no artificial peak to boost treble clarity, just a natural, balanced integration that holds up even under complex music.
The Listening Room Difference
We carry speakers like the Opera Quinta V2 because they reflect real engineering and listening, not marketing fluff. When you reach out to us, you’re not getting a call center or a chatbot. You’ll talk to a real human, usually Mike, our third-generation owner and lifelong audiophile. He’s actually spent time with the Quinta V2, knows how it compares to other speakers in its class, and can help you figure out if it’s the right fit for your system, your room, and your ears.
We’re a family-run, brick-and-mortar hi-fi shop based in Chestertown, Maryland. We live with this gear. We listen. And we care about helping you build a system you’ll want to come home to.
