The Goldring E2 Moving Magnet Cartridge is designed to faithfully reproduce the original recording, preserving the musical nuances and rhythm intended by the artist. As the middle offering in the versatile E Series, the E2 provides an accessible upgrade for those seeking improved audio performance on budget to medium-priced turntables.
Key Features
- Magnetic Duplex Technology™: Dual magnet generator assembly replicates the geometry of the original cutting head for accurate stereo reproduction.
- Aluminum Cantilever: Offers improved stiffness and light weight compared to carbon, allowing for more accurate tracking of medium to high frequencies.
- Expert Adjustment: Pre-set stylus angle ensures optimal channel balance without the need for horizontal tracking adjustments.
- Spherical Stylus Profile: Bonded spherical stylus with a 0.6 mil radius for consistent tracking and reliable performance.
Design and Build
The E2 cartridge features an aluminum cantilever and a bonded spherical stylus. The aluminum cantilever is both stiff and lightweight, enabling the stylus to trace medium to high frequencies more accurately. This design reduces distortion and mis-tracking during loud passages, enhancing overall sound quality. The cartridge is simple to install, making it suitable for a wide range of turntables.
Performance
Utilizing Goldring's Magnetic Duplex Technology™, the E2 employs a dual magnet generator assembly that mirrors the geometry of the original cutting head. This design enhances the accurate reproduction of stereo information from the record groove, resulting in better channel separation and a more engaging soundstage. The expert adjustment during production ensures the stylus angle is optimized for consistent performance throughout the cartridge's lifespan.
Versatility and Compatibility
The E2 is compatible with most budget to medium-priced turntables due to its standard fixing centers and straightforward installation process. The pre-set stylus angle eliminates the need for horizontal tracking adjustments, making it user-friendly for both novices and experienced users. The E2 serves as an ideal upgrade for pre-fitted or obsolete cartridges, offering improved performance without the need for complex setup procedures.

Goldring E2 or E1?
Goldring E2 or E1?
They share the same bonded spherical stylus; the cantilever is the difference. The E1 uses a carbon-fiber reinforced cantilever. The E2 moves to aluminum, which Goldring says is stiff and light, so the stylus traces medium and high frequencies more accurately, with more detail and less distortion and mistracking on loud passages.
Will the E2 fit my turntable?
Will the E2 fit my turntable?
Goldring designed the E1 and E2 as upgrades for any entry-level, pre-fitted or obsolete cartridge. The E2 fits any tonearm with standard half-inch (12.7mm) fixing centers using the supplied M2.5 x 8mm socket head screws, suits arms of 10 to 30g effective mass, and must connect to an MM or phono input. The stylus angle is set at the factory, though Goldring notes a protractor may still be needed for alignment.
What tracking force and loading does the E2 need?
What tracking force and loading does the E2 need?
Goldring recommends 2.0g. It puts out 3.5mV into a standard 47k ohm load, with 100 to 200pF of capacitance (150pF nominal).
How long does the E2's stylus last, and how is it replaced?
How long does the E2's stylus last, and how is it replaced?
Goldring says a well-cared-for spherical diamond can last up to 500 hours before wear noticeably affects performance. To replace it, grasp the stylus housing and withdraw it gently from the front of the body; Goldring warns never to use force, and to fit only a genuine Goldring stylus.
