The AVM Evolution PH 5.3 is a phono preamplifier with a proprietary tube line stage, built for both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges. AVM says the PH 3.3 and PH 5.3 carry the DNA of its flagship PH 8.3. Gain, load, phase invert and the sub filter are all adjustable from the front panel or the included RC 3 PH remote.
The PH 5.3 and the PH 3.3 are sister models. The PH 5.3 adds the tube line stage, and AVM states that the fully solid-state PH 3.3 delivers the same feature set and specification.
Key Features of the AVM Evolution PH 5.3
- Tube Line Stage: A proprietary tube stage, with tubes rated for approximately 20,000 hours thanks to AVM's circuit design.
- MM and MC Cartridges: Five gain settings, six MC impedance values and six MM capacitance values.
- Six Equalization Curves: Built in.
- Remote-Controlled Menu: Gain, load, phase invert and sub filter, through the included RC 3 PH remote.
- Module Slot: One slot for an optional MM RCA, MC RCA or MC XLR input module.
- RCA and XLR Outputs: Connect to your preamp or integrated amplifier either way.
The Tube Line Stage
The PH 5.3 pairs AVM's phono circuit with a proprietary tube line stage. AVM's own circuit architecture gives the tubes a rated life of approximately 20,000 hours.

Matching Your Cartridge
The PH 5.3 supports MM and MC cartridges. Five gain settings, six MC impedance values and six MM capacitance values let you match it to the cartridge you own, and six equalization curves are built in. Every parameter is adjusted from the front panel or the IR remote, along with phase invert and the sub filter.
Inputs, Outputs and the Module Slot
The rear panel carries two RCA phono inputs, each with its own ground terminal, plus RCA and XLR analog outputs. A module slot takes one optional input module of your choice: MM RCA, MC RCA or MC XLR. AVM designed the slot so you can expand the PH 5.3 later without replacing it.

Silver, Black or Cellini Chrome
The screwless precision aluminum enclosure is 43 cm wide. It comes in aluminum silver or brushed black, or as the Cellini Edition with a hand-polished chrome fascia. Every PH 5.3 is assembled by hand at AVM's facility in Malsch, Germany, and passes multiple quality inspections and a multi-day burn-in.

Who Is AVM?
AVM Audio Video Manufaktur has built hi-fi by hand in Germany since 1986, and its products are sold in more than 50 countries. The range runs from the AVM 30.3 series through the Inspiration and Evolution lines to Ovation S, and the Evolution line is where AVM pairs each transistor 3.3 model with a tube-stage 5.3 sister.
Where the PH 5.3 fits in the AVM phono preamplifier line
How the Evolution PH 5.3 compares to AVM's other phono preamplifiers, and what each step up the line adds.
Every AVM phono stage here takes MM and MC cartridges and accepts AVM's plug-in input modules, and the PH 5.3 and PH 8.3 use tubes. The PH 8.3 takes up to four inputs through its modules. Browse the full AVM range.
