The Rega Planar 10 is not just a turntable; it is the ultimate production expression of Rega's design philosophy, bringing the performance of the legendary Naiad turntable to a wider audience. This is a turntable engineered without compromise, where every single component has been meticulously designed to retrieve the maximum amount of musical information from the record groove. By utilizing the most advanced materials and engineering solutions—including a revolutionary ceramic top brace, a diamond-cut ceramic platter, and the pinnacle RB3000 tonearm—the Planar 10 eliminates extraneous mass and resonance to a degree never before achieved in a production Rega. The result is a sound of breathtaking transparency, resolution, and dynamic freedom that is second only to the Naiad itself.
Key Features
- Ultra-Lightweight Skeletal Plinth: A radical plinth design using a Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core, sandwiched between two layers of High-Pressure Laminate (HPL), to create a platform that is incredibly light and stiff.
- Ceramic Top Brace: A ceramic top brace delivers the ultimate in rigidity and stiffness between the tonearm and main bearing, creating a perfectly accurate platform.
- RB3000 Precision Tonearm: The pinnacle of Rega's tonearm production, featuring a polished aluminum arm tube and a zero-tolerance bearing assembly, each one hand-selected and adjusted to a micron level of accuracy.
- Diamond-Cut Ceramic Platter: A custom ceramic flywheel platter, diamond-cut to absolute perfection, provides the ultimate in rotational stability and accuracy due to its extreme hardness and stiffness.
- P10 Custom Matched PSU: The flagship external power supply, with an advanced DSP-based sine wave generator and anti-vibration circuit, is hand-tuned to its specific 24V motor for absolute speed stability.
- Low-Mass Hub Assembly: A new, single-piece aluminum sub-platter and hardened tool steel spindle run inside a custom brass housing for a friction-free, low-mass bearing.
- Reference EBLT Drive Belt: Fitted with Rega's reference-grade EBLT drive belt as standard for the most accurate and consistent drive performance.
- Custom Apheta 3 or Aphelion 2 MC Cartridge Option: Can be factory-fitted with either the Apheta 3 or flagship Aphelion 2 Moving Coil cartridges for the ultimate, perfectly matched, ready-to-play solution.
- Single Piece Dust Cover: A removable, single-piece dust cover provides a clean, elegant aesthetic that complements the skeletal design.
The Pinnacle of Plinth Design
The Planar 10's plinth is the most advanced production plinth Rega has ever produced. It takes the ultra-lightweight philosophy to its extreme, using a Tancast 8 foam core to achieve a plinth that is 30% lighter than the previous RP10 model. The key to its performance, however, is the new ceramic top brace. This material, second only to diamond in stiffness, creates an absolutely rigid link between the tonearm and the main bearing. This "stressed beam" assembly ensures that there is no unwanted energy absorption or resonance, resulting in a profoundly silent background and a stunning level of detail retrieval.
The RB3000: A Masterpiece of Precision
The RB3000 tonearm is the culmination of over four decades of tonearm design and is a work of art in its own right. Each arm is meticulously hand-assembled, featuring a bearing assembly that is adjusted to a tolerance of less than 1000th of a millimeter for movement that is utterly friction-free. This zero-play, zero-tolerance approach allows the stylus to trace the record groove with unparalleled freedom and accuracy, extracting the most subtle micro-dynamics and spatial cues from the recording. It is the most accurate and revealing tonearm Rega produces.
The Ceramic Flywheel
The platter of the Planar 10 is a critical component in its quest for perfect rotational stability. It is machined from a custom ceramic oxide powder which is compressed and fired, then diamond-cut to ensure its surface is perfectly flat and accurate. The material's extreme hardness and stiffness, combined with the flywheel effect of its mass, create a platter that spins with unwavering consistency. This perfect stability is the foundation of the Planar 10's incredibly stable imaging, pitch-perfect tonality, and powerful rhythmic drive.
The Ultimate Power Source: P10 PSU
A turntable's motor is only as good as the power it is fed. The Planar 10 is paired with its own dedicated, custom-matched P10 power supply. This flagship PSU uses a DSP generator to create a perfect, low-distortion sine wave, which is then fed to an advanced anti-vibration circuit. Each P10 is hand-tuned at the factory to the specific 24V motor in your turntable, creating a perfectly synergistic system that is almost completely free from motor vibration. This ensures the quietest possible drive system and the most accurate rotational speed.
