The Elex MK4 is the full-width step up: 72 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 90 into 6, four line inputs, a moving magnet phono input, coaxial and optical DAC inputs up to 24-bit/192kHz, a headphone socket, and an always-on pre-out plus a record output. The Brio MK7 is half-width at 50 watts into 8 ohms (72 into 4), with three line inputs, the same kind of MM phono and DAC inputs, and no pre-out or record output.

The Elicit MK5 adds power and flexibility. It makes 105 watts into 8 ohms, 127 into 6 and 162 into 4, uses the discrete FET preamp circuit from Rega's Aethos with an Alps volume control, and adds a Direct input that bypasses the volume control for home theater or an external preamp, plus a record loop. The Elex MK4 has no Direct input.

Yes, over coaxial or optical. Rega lists two S/PDIF digital inputs, D1 coaxial and D2 optical, each accepting common bit depths and sample rates up to 24-bit/192kHz, feeding a DAC based closely on Rega's DAC-R. Rega lists no USB input, so the streamer needs a coaxial or optical output.

Can I add a subwoofer or headphones to the Elex MK4?
Both. The pre-amp output is always active, and Rega says it can drive several power amplifiers or sub-bass units, such as a powered subwoofer. The front headphone socket drives standard hi-fi headphones and turns the speakers off when a plug is inserted. A record output, unaffected by the volume control, can also feed a separate headphone amplifier.

It is intended for speakers of 4 to 16 ohms, but Rega publishes no 4-ohm power figure and warns that sustained use below 8 ohms makes it run warmer, and long high-level use into 6 ohms or less can trip its thermal shutdown. If that happens, leave it off for at least 10 minutes to cool. Its phono input is for moving magnet cartridges only. Rega builds a 115V version.
