Quadraspire SVT Wall Shelf

The SVT Wall Shelf puts one component on the wall instead of on furniture, which takes it off the floor and away from whatever the floor is doing. It is a complete assembly: a 20mm solid bamboo ply shelf, four spikes with brass inserts, and a pair of wall arms rated to 50kg (110lb). Made in Britain.

Why bamboo ply and not glass

Quadraspire's position is that some shelf materials resonate and distort the sound of the system sitting on them, and glass is the one they name. After testing alternatives they settled on solid bamboo ply because it suppresses vibration, and because bamboo is carbon neutral. The SVT shelf is 20mm of it.

Solid aluminum feet, not tube

Steel tube can resonate and color the sound. Quadraspire uses solid aluminum instead for every column and foot in the range, including the spikes on this shelf, because it has much less resonance than tube and dissipates energy faster. It is the same part choice that runs through their floor racks.

Why the shelf is not a plain rectangle

Parallel lines on a rectangular shelf encourage resonance. Quadraspire avoids them wherever the design allows, in the same way most musical instruments are shaped, which is why the SVT shelf carries a curved profile and machined slots rather than four straight edges.

The brass insert

Brass and bronze turn up constantly in musical instruments, and Quadraspire's own explanation for using them is that they open up the soundstage. Each spike on this shelf seats into a brass insert rather than straight into the bamboo.

What you get and what you choose

One shelf, four spikes and one pair of wall arms. Three choices are independent of each other: the shelf finish (natural, cherry, dark or black bamboo), the spike finish (black or silver), and the bracket finish (bamboo or black bamboo). Every combination is the same price. The photographs show black spikes.
