Perlisten S4b Black Edition Bookshelf Speaker

Shhh. Perlisten hasn't announced the bookshelf version of the S7t Black Edition yet. We saw a pre-production S4b Black Edition at AXPONA, and in August we watched it get measured on the Klippel Near Field Scanner at Perlisten's new building in Verona, Wisconsin. That's the third photo.

The Perlisten S4b Black Edition is the bookshelf speaker in Perlisten's Black Edition treatment. It relates to the S7t Black Edition the way the standard S4b relates to the standard S7t: the same driver, tweeter, DPC array and cabinet construction as the S7t Black Edition, built as a bookshelf speaker. Perlisten has not released specifications or pricing yet.

What the S4b Black Edition Shares With the S7t Black Edition

Perlisten describes the Black Edition parts on the S7t Black Edition. These are the ones the bookshelf model shares with the tower:

• DPC Array: Perlisten's Directivity Pattern Control array, with two 28mm TPCD Textreme domes above and below a 28mm beryllium dome. The waveguide that holds them is CNC-machined from a single 40mm billet of aluminum, and it doubles as a heatsink that keeps all three tweeters at an even operating temperature.
• Woofer: A TPCD Textreme woofer with a redesigned voice coil that uses longer windings, a secondary aluminum shorting ring and an external copper heatsink. On the S7t Black Edition, Perlisten credits this motor with 20% more linear excursion, reduced inductance and lower distortion.
• Cabinet: Aluminum side panels, which add mass and improve damping.
