Description
The Michell Gyro SE Turntable, now available as a bundle with the T8 tonearm, record clamp, and UniCover, brings the acclaimed sound quality of the GyroDec to a more space-efficient design. With its rigid acrylic spider frame and three-point spring suspension, the Gyro SE delivers reference-quality audio, precise detail, and a natural soundstage. This bundle offers audiophiles a complete, high-performance setup that combines elegance with cutting-edge technology for an immersive vinyl experience.
Key Features
- T8 Tonearm & Accessories: Includes the T8 tonearm, Michell record clamp, and UniCover, providing a ready-to-play, all-in-one setup.
- Three-Point Spring Suspension System: Ensures stability and precise tracking, with height-adjustable suspension towers for optimized performance.
- Inverted Oil-Circulating Main Bearing: A unique design that keeps the bearing fully lubricated during playback, eliminating noise and unwanted vibration.
- Impedance-Matched Platter with Brass Weights: Crafted to mirror vinyl’s acoustic properties, with added mass for exceptional speed stability.
- Free-Standing Motor Unit: Isolated from the main structure to prevent motor noise from reaching the stylus.
- Low Contact Feet: Reduces vibration transfer from the supporting surface for a cleaner, more detailed sound.
Design and Build
The Gyro SE features a rigid and inert acrylic spider that supports the chassis, replacing the full-sized plinth of the GyroDec to reduce size without compromising performance. The weighted pendulum-style sub-chassis hangs from three suspension springs, providing a rigid platform for the main bearing, platter, and tonearm assembly while acting as a resonance sink to eliminate unwanted vibrations. The turntable's compact design and sleek aesthetics make it a perfect fit for smaller spaces without sacrificing the iconic Michell look.
Performance
Engineered to bring out the finest details in vinyl, the Gyro SE excels in clarity and precision. Its impedance-matched platter, supported by solid brass weights, minimizes wow and flutter, providing smooth playback and enhanced stability. The free-standing motor unit and low-contact feet further isolate the turntable from vibrations, ensuring your music remains uncolored and true to the original recording.
Technology
The Gyro SE incorporates advanced technologies to achieve its superior performance. The inverted oil-circulating main bearing positions the point of rotation at the top, allowing full lubrication during platter rotation via a modified Archimedean screw machined into the bearing's bore, ensuring silent and smooth operation. The impedance-matched platter is crafted from a material with vibration-dampening characteristics similar to vinyl, providing a neutral sound characteristic. Solid brass weights add mass to the platter, increasing momentum and reducing wow and flutter. The free-standing motor unit is completely separate from the turntable, connected only by the drive belt, preventing motor-induced noise and vibrations from affecting playback. Low contact area feet minimize vibration transfer from the supporting surface, further enhancing sound quality.
Versatility and Compatibility
The Gyro SE is offered in two versions: the full bundle with the T8 tonearm, record clamp, and UniCover, and a standalone turntable-only option for those wishing to pair it with an existing tonearm setup. With four RCA analog inputs and compatibility with a range of moving coil and standard cartridges, the Gyro SE adapts to various audio configurations and preferences.
