The AVM PC 5.3 is a power conditioner with twelve outlets: four for amplifiers and eight for source components, plus a 15 V DC power supply for a turntable. AVM designed it to keep high- and low-frequency interference on the mains away from your system, and its OLED display shows the quality of your power as it works.
Each outlet has its own HF filter, which also keeps the connected components from interfering with each other.
Key Features of the AVM PC 5.3
- Twelve Outlets: Four power outlets for integrated and power amplifiers, and eight low-power outlets for source components.
- Turntable Power Supply: A galvanically isolated 15 V DC output rated at 4 A.
- DC Filter: Removes DC from the mains at the input, which AVM says eliminates mechanical transformer hum.
- Per-Outlet HF Filtering: Common-mode chokes and film capacitors, designed separately for each outlet.
- OLED Display: Shows mains voltage, frequency, phase, DC and HF levels, and how hard the conditioner is working.
- Demo Buttons: Bypass the DC filter or the HF filter to hear the difference.
- Protection: Surge protection, active phase detection, overcurrent protection and a resettable residual current device.
Filtering for Each Outlet
AVM's engineers developed the PC 5.3 in-house. A DC filter at the input removes DC components from the mains, which AVM says eliminates mechanical transformer hum. After it, every outlet gets its own HF filter, built with common-mode chokes and film capacitors, so crosstalk between the connected components is suppressed as well as interference from the grid.
The four power outlets are for integrated and power amplifiers and share up to 16 A. The eight low-power outlets for source components are fused separately, with two 2 A fuses reached from the rear panel, and the US version's rear panel rates them at 230 VA in total. AVM limits the total for all outlets to 16 A.
A Power Supply for Your Turntable
The PC 5.3 has a galvanically isolated 15 V DC output rated at 4 A, which the US version's rear panel labels as the turntable supply, with the plus on the center pin. The PC 3.3 does not have it.
A Display That Shows Your Power
The white 256 x 64 graphic OLED display, which you can switch off, measures and shows the mains voltage, the frequency and whether the mains phase is correct. Bar graphs show DC and HF on the mains, and a figure from 0 to 100% shows how much correction the conditioner is applying. You can also turn on a sound that reports the activity.
Two demo buttons bypass the DC filter and the HF filter, so you can compare your system with and without them.
Protection and Switching
Active phase detection at the input enables the outlets only when protective earth is connected and the phase is correct; otherwise the display shows an error. The PC 5.3 adds surge protection, overcurrent protection and a resettable residual current device on the underside.
AVM's technical data lists consumption under 7 W in operation and under 0.3 W in standby. The outlets switch on in sequence, the low-power outlets before the power outlets, to limit inrush current and avoid tripping your home's breakers. An AVM RC 3 or RC 5 remote can switch the PC 5.3 between on and standby, and it powers down with a delay so connected components can save their settings.

The US Version
The US version has US outlets, and its rear panel is marked for 115 VAC at 60 Hz and 16 A maximum.
Silver, Black or Cellini Chrome
The PC 5.3 comes in silver or black, and AVM also offers a Cellini chrome version. It measures 430 mm wide and 149 mm tall.
