The AVM Ovation MA 8.3 S is a pair of Class A/AB mono power amplifiers with AVM's new anode-follower tube input stage. In AVM's technical data each amplifier delivers more than 1,100 W into 4 ohms and more than 600 W into 8 ohms, from two amplifier stages bridged in push-pull configuration, two 1,000 VA toroidal transformers, 48 MOSFETs and 544,000 µF of filter capacitance.
The MA 8.3 S is a mono power amplifier in AVM's Ovation S line, the monoblock sibling of the SA 8.3 S stereo amplifier. AVM states that it drives even impedance-critical loudspeakers with supreme composure, and this listing is for a pair.
Key Features of the AVM Ovation MA 8.3 S
- Tube Input Stage: A new anode-follower tube input stage for ultra-wideband frequency response.
- Over 1,100 W Into 4 Ohms: Per amplifier, more than 600 W into 8 ohms and more than 1,800 W into 2 ohms, in Class A/AB.
- Bridged Push-Pull Design: Two amplifier stages bridged in push-pull configuration (Bridge Mode).
- Two 1,000 VA Transformers: With 48 high-performance MOSFETs and 544,000 µF of filter capacitance per amplifier.
- Fully DC-Coupled: No coupling capacitors in the signal path, with automatic offset compensation and current-source-stabilized output stages.
- Dual Differential Input Stage: With one RCA and one XLR high-level input.
- OLED Display and Triggers: A dimmable OLED graphic display, a 5 to 20 V DC trigger input and AVM's AIR trigger.
What Drives the MA 8.3 S?
Each MA 8.3 S uses a Class A/AB architecture with two amplifier stages bridged in push-pull configuration. Two low-stray toroidal transformers rated at 1,000 VA each, 48 high-performance MOSFETs and 544,000 µF of filter capacitance form its power platform.
AVM's technical data rates each amplifier at more than 600 W into 8 ohms, more than 1,100 W into 4 ohms and more than 1,800 W into 2 ohms. Distortion is below 0.02% and intermodulation below 0.01% at 25 W into 4 ohms, with a signal-to-noise ratio above 94 dB(A), a frequency response from below 1 Hz to above 100 kHz (-3 dB) and a damping factor above 400.

The Anode-Follower Tube Input Stage
The MA 8.3 S and SA 8.3 S share AVM's new anode-follower tube input stage, designed for an ultra-wideband frequency response. AVM credits it with a fine musical fluency, combined with high operational reliability and a modern circuit design.
The entire analog circuit is DC-coupled to keep coupling capacitors out of the signal path, with automatic offset compensation, dual differential input stages and current-source-stabilized output stages. Integrated power filtering covers all relevant voltage ranges.
Inputs, Control and Finishes
Each MA 8.3 S has one RCA and one XLR high-level input, with an input sensitivity of 2.1 V (for 1000 W into 4 ohms) and input impedances of 20 kohm and 40 kohm. A trigger input takes 5 to 20 V DC, AVM's AIR trigger (AVM Intelligent Remote) is built in, and a dimmable OLED graphic display is fitted.
The massive aluminum enclosure comes in silver, brushed black, or the Cellini version with a chrome fascia, and the MA 8.3 S is delivered in a flight case.
