The AVM Ovation CS 8.3 S is an all-in-one streaming CD receiver that drives your speakers at 550 watts per channel into 4 ohms. A slot-in Pure CD drive, the X-Stream Engine for hi-res streaming, an MM and MC phono stage, HDMI ARC for the TV and AVM's tube technology share one screwless aluminum housing, 43 cm wide and handcrafted in Malsch, Germany.
AVM calls the CS 8.3 S a complete reimagining of its Ovation all-in-one from the ground up. It keeps the housing of the first generation and redesigns everything inside, and it is the model that launched AVM's new "S" line, with S for Super.
Key Features of the AVM Ovation CS 8.3 S
- 550 Watts Per Channel: 2 x 550 W into 4 ohms and 2 x 250 W into 8 ohms, with switchable outputs for two pairs of speakers.
- S-DAC With ESS 9038 PRO: A Double-Quad DAC with four DACs working in parallel per channel, up to 384 kHz/32-bit PCM and DSD256.

What Changed in the Ovation S Generation?
AVM describes the CS 8.3 S as an entirely new masterpiece with a fundamentally reconceived architecture inside the elegant housing that made the first generation successful. The additions AVM lists are a high-performance phono stage for MM and MC cartridges with app-based setup, an HDMI ARC input, an enhanced power supply delivering 550 watts, and switchable connections for two pairs of speakers.
AVM's 2026 overview says the new layout shortens signal paths and signal routing even further than in previous generations, while the Ovation design has only been moderately refined. The CS 8.3 S is the first model of the "S" line, which AVM calls the absolute pinnacle of its engineering.

550 Watts From New Amplifier Stages
The CS 8.3 S has completely new amplifier stages, supported by an enhanced power supply, and delivers 2 x 550 W into 4 ohms and 2 x 250 W into 8 ohms. AVM states that even impedance-critical speakers are handled with ease. The power amplifier has an input sensitivity of 1.2 V, distortion below 0.005% and a signal-to-noise ratio above 95 dB.
Multi-stage filtered mains voltage reaches the critical sections over the shortest possible paths, and the power supplies for the left and right analog output stages are completely separated. A new analog passive volume control sets the level. Speaker outputs A and B let you connect two pairs of speakers and switch between them.
S-DAC and the X-Stream Engine
At the center of the digital section is AVM's new S-DAC, built on the ESS 9038 PRO Double-Quad DAC with four DACs working in parallel per channel. It plays PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD256.
Streaming runs on the AVM X-Stream Engine, with AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect (MAX), Qobuz Connect, Roon Ready, HighResAudio and web radio, plus AVM's RoomConneXion multiroom function. The CS 8.3 S connects by LAN or dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) and also has Bluetooth 5.0. The USB-A port reads hard drives and USB sticks formatted FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS, and the USB-C input takes audio from a Windows PC or Mac at up to DSD128 or 192 kHz/24-bit.

Phono Stage for MM and MC Cartridges
The CS 8.3 S has a newly developed phono stage for moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, and you make its settings in the RC-X app. Analog input signals are processed entirely in the analog domain. RIAA equalization is accurate to within 0.3 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
Moving-magnet gain is 40, 45, 50 or 55 dB, and moving-coil gain is 55, 60, 65 or 70 dB. Moving-coil loading offers seven impedance values from 100 ohms to 2k ohms, and moving-magnet capacitance offers seven values from 47 to 410 pF. AVM rates the signal-to-noise ratio above 84 dB(A) for MM and above 75 dB(A) for MC.
Pure CD Drive, HDMI ARC and Digital Connections
The Pure CD drive loads by slot and is spring-mounted to minimize vibrations. It plays CD Audio and CD-R discs to the Red Book standard.
The HDMI ARC input lets a TV play through the CS 8.3 S and your speakers, alongside a turntable and your other analog and digital sources. Coaxial and optical inputs accept up to 192 kHz/24-bit on coax and 96 kHz/24-bit on optical, and matching coaxial and optical digital outputs are on the rear panel.

Analog Connections, Headphones and Control
Beyond its speaker outputs, the CS 8.3 S has RCA and XLR analog inputs, RCA preamp and line outputs, and an XLR output. The line output runs at 2.5 V. In the analog preamplifier section AVM rates distortion below 0.02% and the signal-to-noise ratio above 99 dB, with a -3 dB frequency response from below 5 Hz to above 30 kHz.
The 6.3 mm headphone output has its own Class A/B amplifier. A trigger input (5 to 20 V), two 12 V trigger outputs and an external IR input tie the CS 8.3 S into a larger system. You control it with the RC-X app, the included RC 5 remote with customizable comfort buttons, or the front panel and its white, dimmable OLED display.
Silver, Black or Cellini Chrome
The CS 8.3 S comes in aluminum silver or black, and as a Cellini version with a chrome-plated, hand-polished front and chrome knobs. Every Ovation model is handcrafted at the AVM factory in Malsch, and each unit goes through repeated quality controls and a multi-day burn-in. AVM ships every Ovation model in a robust AVM flight case.

What is the difference between the AVM CS 8.3 and the CS 8.3 S?
What is the difference between the AVM CS 8.3 and the CS 8.3 S?
The CS 8.3 S is a new generation. AVM kept the elegant housing of its predecessor, the CS 8.3, and redesigned everything inside. AVM lists the additions as a high-performance phono stage for MM and MC cartridges with app-based setup, an HDMI ARC input, an enhanced power supply delivering 550 watts, and switchable connections for two pairs of speakers. The digital section now runs on AVM's S-DAC with the ESS 9038 PRO Double-Quad DAC, and the CS 8.3 S ships with the RC 5 remote.
Will the AVM CS 8.3 S work on US 120-volt power?
Will the AVM CS 8.3 S work on US 120-volt power?
Yes. AVM specifies a 100 V to 240 V, 50/60 Hz power supply for the CS 8.3 S, which covers the US 120 V, 60 Hz supply.
Can I connect my TV to the AVM CS 8.3 S?
Can I connect my TV to the AVM CS 8.3 S?
Yes. The CS 8.3 S has an HDMI ARC input, so your TV's sound plays through the CS 8.3 S and your speakers. It also has coaxial and optical digital inputs, accepting up to 192 kHz/24-bit on coax and 96 kHz/24-bit on optical.
Can I connect a turntable to the AVM CS 8.3 S?
Can I connect a turntable to the AVM CS 8.3 S?
Yes. The built-in phono stage takes moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, with four gain settings for each type, seven MC impedance values and seven MM capacitance values, all set from the RC-X app. AVM processes the phono signal entirely in the analog domain.
