The Audia Flight FL Phono is a fully discrete, dual-chassis reference phono stage designed for vinyl playback at the highest level. With two years of R&D behind it, this phono preamplifier offers remarkable gain flexibility, ultra-low noise operation, and complete isolation of the power supply to minimize vibration and interference. Every design choice, from the separate toroidal transformers to the custom MM and MC input modules, reflects a deep understanding of what it takes to extract every last detail from analog records.

Whether you’re pairing it with a low-output moving coil or a high-output moving magnet cartridge, the FL Phono provides the transparency, speed, and dynamic capability needed to hear the full potential of your vinyl system.

Key Features
  • Dual-chassis architecture: Separate power supply enclosure eliminates noise and vibration
  • Custom MM and MC input boards: Tailored gain and loading for each cartridge type
  • Wide gain range: Up to 74 dB available for low-output MC cartridges
  • Current-feedback topology: Fast, accurate signal handling with low distortion
  • Balanced and unbalanced outputs: Flexible connection to any preamp or integrated amp
  • Passive RIAA network: Uses 1% polypropylene and polystyrene capacitors for precision
  • Selectable subsonic IEC filter: Reduces low-frequency rumble when needed
  • Mono playback switch: Improves sound from mono records using stereo cartridges
  • Gold-contact relays and jumpers: Preserve signal purity with tight tolerance components
  • Modular input board design: Choose MM, MC, or both with the option to upgrade later
  • DC protection circuit: Prevents damage to connected equipment from offset voltage
  • Hand-built in Italy: With high-grade materials and extensive listening-based design
Serious Design from the Ground Up

At its core, the FL Phono was designed to protect and amplify one of the most delicate signals in audio: the cartridge output. To do this, Audia Flight completely isolated the power supply from the audio circuits by placing it in its own dedicated enclosure. This second chassis contains a 50VA toroidal transformer to supply the analog stages and a 15VA transformer for logic and control. A series of opto-isolators allow the power supply to receive control signals without introducing electrical noise.

The phono stage itself is based on Audia Flight’s current-feedback design philosophy. Separate MM and MC input boards are available and tailored to the electrical characteristics of each cartridge type. MC input boards deliver 60 dB of gain with extremely low noise and offset, while MM input boards provide 40 dB of gain using a differential input stage. An additional 10 dB of gain is available in the second gain stage, for a total of up to 74 dB when needed.

Gain, loading, and capacitance settings are all located close to the input stage and use gold-plated professional-grade jumpers. This minimizes signal path length and preserves sonic accuracy. The signal then moves through gold-contact relays and into a fully passive RIAA filter made with high-spec 1% capacitors. An optional IEC subsonic filter can be engaged at this stage to eliminate low-frequency rumble.

Customizable, Upgradable, Built to Serve

The FL Phono is available with a range of input board options. You can order it with one MM and one MC input, two MM, or two MC. Each configuration can be changed later by swapping the modular input boards. This makes it an ideal long-term investment for audiophiles who run multiple turntables or swap cartridges often.

After the RIAA stage, signal moves through a newly redesigned Class A current-feedback output stage called MCF NG1. This circuit improves noise performance and speed, providing a clean, high-bandwidth path to your amplifier or preamp. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs are included.

A front-panel mono switch is also included. It sums the left and right channels, improving sound quality when playing mono records with stereo cartridges by eliminating phase discrepancies and improving center image solidity.

From top to bottom, this phono stage offers performance and versatility that rivals units at two or three times the price.

The Listening Room Difference
