The Vienna Acoustics Mozart Signature SE is one of those speakers that punches so far beyond its price point that it makes you wonder what the rest of the industry is doing with the extra money. A 2.5-way floorstanding design standing just under 40 inches tall, it puts a proprietary 1.1-inch hand-coated silk dome tweeter and dual 6-inch X3P composite cone drivers into a hand-finished cabinet that would not look out of place next to speakers costing three times as much. Designed by Peter Gansterer in Vienna, the Mozart has been in continuous production and refinement since 1990. The SE Signature is the latest expression of that 35-year evolution, and it may be the most complete version yet.

Vienna Acoustics Mozart Signature SE: The Concert Grand Series
The Mozart Signature SE sits in the middle of Vienna Acoustics' Concert Grand Series, above the Haydn Symphony Edition bookshelf speakers and below the Beethoven Baby Grand Reference floorstanding towers. It shares the Concert Grand platform's DNA, including VA's obsessive 1% tolerance crossover capacitors, 0.7% tolerance air-core inductors, and production-pair matching within 0.5dB of the reference pair. Every pair that ships sounds exactly like the pair Peter Gansterer signed off on.
Driver Technology: X3P and the Spider Cone
Both 6-inch drivers use Vienna Acoustics' proprietary X3P cone material, a blend of TPX (the thermoplastic used across the XPP Spider Cone family) with three polypropylene-based synthetics. The mix is tuned for maximum internal damping, ultra-low mass, and precise control over cone density and rigidity. You can actually see through the cone, which has become something of a VA signature. The same X3P Spider Cone technology is used in the Beethoven Concert Grand Reference, and the drivers are assembled to VA's specifications at the Scan-Speak facility in Denmark.
The two woofers do not work in parallel. The lower driver tapers off as frequency rises, while the upper woofer plays full range. This 2.5-way configuration means high frequencies radiate from a smaller surface area for tight dispersion and imaging, while both drivers combine at low frequencies for the output and dynamics of a much larger driver complement. The result is a speaker that images like a small monitor but moves air like a proper floorstander.
The Silk Dome Tweeter
Vienna Acoustics' 1.1-inch hand-coated silk dome tweeter is produced at the Scan-Speak factory but built entirely to VA's specifications. It is slightly oversized compared to a standard 1-inch dome, which aids horizontal dispersion and makes the sweet spot wider and more forgiving. This is the same tweeter platform used in the Beethoven Concert Grand, a speaker at nearly twice the price. It extends cleanly through the upper midrange without the bite or fatigue that some metal dome designs can introduce during long listening sessions.
Cabinet Construction and Finishes
The narrow tower cabinet uses a thick front baffle with one-inch sidewalls and what VA describes as a "relatively complicated" internal bracing pattern, heavily supplemented with acoustic dampening material. The bass reflex design fires through twin rear ports, with foam plugs supplied for room-specific tuning. The cast-aluminum footers, finished in crackle texture, provide stability and come with both spikes and dimpled pucks to protect hardwood floors.
The Mozart Signature SE is available in Piano Black, Piano White, Cherry, and Premium Rosewood (the Rosewood finish carries a $1,000 premium). Satin Black and Satin White options are also available at a lower price point. The piano finishes are hand-polished to a standard that reviewers have consistently compared to luxury automotive paint.
What the Mozart Signature SE Sounds Like
Speed and coherence are the first things that register. The combination of small, quick drivers with carefully selected crossover components produces a speaker that tracks transients and time signatures with unusual precision. Classical and acoustic music benefit from micro-dynamic resolution that larger, heavier drivers often sacrifice. The Mozart stages deeply, throws a wide soundfield, and can play at surprisingly high levels before running into its limits. Bass extension reaches into the low 30s, which is genuine low-frequency performance from a slim tower.
The 90dB sensitivity at 4 ohms nominal means the Mozart Signature SE wants quality current behind it. It will play well with a wide range of amplification from 30 to 200 watts, but matching it with better electronics consistently unlocks more performance. This is a speaker that will tell you exactly what your upstream components are doing.
