The Chord Electronics BerTTi puts Ultima amplifier topology into a box that stacks on top of your Hugo TT2. Seventy-five watts per channel of fully balanced Class AB MOSFET power, dual feed-forward error correction monitoring every output device in real time, and twin high-frequency switch-mode power supplies that keep the whole thing cool enough to sit in a desktop system without a second thought. This is not a lifestyle product pretending to be a power amp. It is a proper Chord amplifier that happens to fit on half a rack shelf.

Ultima Topology in the BerTTi
The BerTTi is the smallest and most affordable amplifier to receive Chord's Ultima topology, the same error-correction architecture used in the company's flagship mono blocks. Dual feed-forward error correction continuously monitors the electrical and thermal performance of every MOSFET power device in the output stage, correcting nonlinearities before they reach the speaker terminals. Each amplifier channel has two independent error correction pathways, each one compensating for distortion products at the power devices in real time.
This topology was originally theorized by Professor Malcolm J. Hawksford and developed in compact form by Robert Cordell. Chord founder John Franks adapted it for the company's proprietary MOSFET designs, and the BerTTi is the latest implementation. The result is measurably low distortion without the feedback-related compromises that plague conventional correction schemes.
Chord Electronics BerTTi Power Supply Design
Twin switched-mode power supplies feed the output stage, and a separate 400kHz super low noise auxiliary supply boosts the front-end voltage rails above the main rails. This gives the BerTTi more headroom for dynamic transients than its 75-watt rating might suggest. The higher auxiliary rail voltage means the input stage can swing further before clipping, preserving signal integrity on peaks that would compress a simpler design. Four internal fans keep operating temperatures low enough for placement in enclosed cabinets or tight desktop stacks.
Inputs and System Integration
The rear panel carries balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, two pairs of high-current speaker binding posts, a 12V trigger input, and an IEC mains connector with master power switch. The single front-panel polycarbonate sphere serves as the power switch, glowing to indicate operating state. The BerTTi is designed primarily as the power section for the Hugo TT2, which functions as DAC, preamplifier, and headphone amp in one chassis. Feed it balanced XLR from the TT2's outputs and the system is complete.
Building the Complete Table Top System
The BerTTi matches the Table Top dimensions at 235mm wide, stacking with the Hugo TT2 and Hugo M Scaler. A three-box stack gives you over a million taps of digital processing (via M Scaler), the TT2's 98,304-tap DAC with balanced outputs, and 75 watts of Ultima-topology amplification. That is a complete source-to-speaker system in three matched boxes that occupies less space than a single full-width amplifier. The 12V trigger lets the BerTTi power on and off automatically with the TT2.
What Replaced the TToby
The BerTTi replaces Chord's earlier TToby stereo power amplifier in the Table Top range. The primary upgrade is the addition of Ultima topology: the TToby used a single feed-forward error correction pathway, while the BerTTi uses dual pathways per channel. The new 400kHz auxiliary power supply is also new to this model, providing additional voltage swing that the TToby lacked. The chassis dimensions and stacking compatibility remain unchanged.
Where the BerTTi Fits in the Chord Amplifier Lineup
The BerTTi is Chord's entry point into Ultima-topology amplification. Above it, the Etude delivers 150W per channel in the Choral range, the Ultima 6 provides 180W, and the lineup scales up through the Ultima 5, Ultima 3, and Ultima 2 mono blocks. All share the same dual feed-forward error correction architecture. The BerTTi is the only Ultima amplifier in the Table Top form factor, making it the natural partner for the Hugo TT2 and M Scaler.
