The Rega Aura MC is an exceptionally high-end phono pre-amplifier designed specifically for moving coil cartridges. It represents the culmination of decades of electronic design and development at Rega, with a singular focus on achieving the purest possible signal path from the cartridge to the amplifier. The Aura MC is built without compromise, housed in a custom-engineered case and featuring a sophisticated, all-symmetrical design that delivers a transparent, dynamic, and musically engaging performance.
Key Features
-
All-Symmetrical Design: The Aura MC features a symmetrical, three-stage pre-amplifier design that ensures a balanced and uncolored signal.
-
Ultra-Low-Noise Input Stage: The first amplification stage utilizes parallel connected, ultra-low-noise FET transistors, preventing bias current from flowing into the delicate cartridge coil.
-
Fully Adjustable: The phono stage offers extensive adjustability for input load and capacitive load via front-panel controls, allowing for matching with most moving coil cartridges.
-
High-Quality Components: It employs audiophile-grade polypropylene capacitors in the signal path and 1% tolerance capacitors in the RIAA EQ stages for maximum accuracy.
-
Discrete Power Supply: A symmetrical, discrete tracking power supply provides a 60% higher voltage than typical pre-amplifiers, maximizing headroom and dynamic range.
-
High-Quality Relays: Gain, mute, and mono switching are controlled by high-quality relays, ensuring no signal degradation.
Meticulous Three-Stage Amplification
The Aura MC’s core is its meticulously designed three-stage amplification circuit. The first stage is a symmetrical, complementary Class A amplifier that uses ultra-low-noise FET transistors to ensure a pristine signal from the cartridge. The second stage, a symmetrical Class A differential amplifier, works to further amplify the signal with minimal distortion. Finally, the third stage inverts the signal to provide a balanced output, a feature typically found only in the most high-end audio components. This sophisticated design ensures the signal is amplified and processed with exceptional linearity and precision.
Uncompromising Power and Headroom
To handle the most dynamic musical passages without clipping or compression, the Aura MC features a symmetrical, discrete tracking power supply. This unique design provides a 60% higher voltage than typical phono stages, giving the unit a vastly increased amount of headroom. This allows the Aura MC to reproduce complex musical transients with ease, preserving the full dynamic range and impact of the original recording. The high-quality power supply is a key element in the Aura MC’s ability to deliver a truly lifelike and powerful performance.
Precision and Versatility
The Aura MC is not only a sonic masterpiece but also an incredibly versatile component. Its front-panel controls allow for precise adjustments to match most moving coil cartridges. You can select from a wide range of input load and capacitive load options, ensuring that the cartridge is operating into the ideal electrical environment. This level of fine-tuning is crucial for extracting the absolute best performance from your cartridge and maximizing your entire vinyl playback system.
Built to a Higher Standard
The Rega Aura MC is built to the company's "no compromise" philosophy. Every aspect of its design and construction is focused on sound quality. The unit is housed in a substantial, custom-engineered case that provides a completely stable and shielded environment for the sensitive internal electronics. The absence of superfluous gadgets or digital displays ensures that all power is dedicated to the audio circuit, resulting in a phono stage that is built for one purpose: to deliver an unadulterated, pure musical signal.

Can the Aura be used with a moving magnet cartridge?
Can the Aura be used with a moving magnet cartridge?
No. Rega says the Aura is not suitable for any moving magnet cartridge; it works only with moving coils.
How do I set up the Aura for my cartridge?
How do I set up the Aura for my cartridge?
From the front panel. Load is 50, 100, 150, 300 or 400 ohms and capacitance 1,000, 2,000, 3,200, 4,300 or 5,700pF; 100 ohms and 1,000pF are optimized for Rega's own moving coils. Gain is 63.5 or 69.5dB: Rega advises starting on the lower setting and only raising it for lower-output cartridges, especially with the balanced output, which runs 6dB higher.
What connections does the Aura have?
What connections does the Aura have?
An RCA input, with outputs on RCA or balanced XLR. Rega includes a shielded mains lead and an RCA interconnect. The front panel also has a mono function for playing mono records with a stereo cartridge, and a mute for changing settings or records.
Where should the Aura go?
Where should the Aura go?
Rega advises placing it as far from the turntable as the tonearm lead allows, ideally to the turntable's left. It weighs 13kg. Rega recommends switching it off after use; it reaches full sound quality in under ten minutes, faster while playing music.
