Audia Flight DACs are digital-to-analog converters from the Italian maker of the FLS and Strumento amplifiers, designed to serve as the digital hub of a high-end system. The FLS22 gives each channel its own ESS Sabre ES9038PRO chip, with a precision Crystek CCHD-950 clock setting the timing and ten dedicated ultra-low-noise power supplies feeding the digital circuitry. Three separate toroidal transformers power the analog, digital and control sections.
Eight galvanically isolated inputs take I2S over HDMI, USB, AES/EBU, S/PDIF and Toslink, and the I2S and USB inputs accept PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD up to DSD512. A fully balanced, discrete Class A output stage feeds XLR and RCA outputs at a fixed or variable level, so the FLS22 can run into a preamplifier or connect directly to a power amplifier. For a disc drive of its own, see the Audia Flight CD and SACD players. For a converter inside an FLS preamplifier or integrated amplifier, see the add-on boards.
