The AVM Ovation SA 8.3 S is a Class A/AB stereo power amplifier with AVM's new anode-follower tube input stage. AVM's technical data rates it at more than 420 W per channel into 4 ohms and more than 230 W into 8 ohms, from two 1,000 VA toroidal transformers, 24 MOSFETs per channel and 270,000 µF of filter capacitance per channel.
The SA 8.3 S is a stereo power amplifier in AVM's Ovation S line, and the stereo sibling of the MA 8.3 S monoblocks. Its analog circuit is fully DC-coupled, and it is delivered in a flight case.
Key Features of the AVM Ovation SA 8.3 S
- Tube Input Stage: A new anode-follower tube input stage for ultra-wideband frequency response.
- Over 420 W Per Channel Into 4 Ohms: More than 230 W into 8 ohms and more than 700 W into 2 ohms, in Class A/AB.
- Two 1,000 VA Transformers: Two low-stray toroidal transformers for channel separation, with 24 MOSFETs and 270,000 µF per channel.
- Fully DC-Coupled: No coupling capacitors in the signal path, with automatic offset compensation and current-source-stabilized output stages.
- Dual Differential Input Stage: With RCA and XLR high-level inputs.
- Integrated Power Filtering: Across all relevant voltage ranges.
- OLED Display and Triggers: A dimmable OLED graphic display, a 5 to 20 V DC trigger input and AVM's AIR trigger.
What Does the Tube Input Stage Do?
The SA 8.3 S uses a new anode-follower tube input stage, designed for an ultra-wideband frequency response. AVM credits it with a fine musical fluency, combined with high operational reliability and a modern circuit design.
The SA 8.3 S also has dual differential input stages, and the entire analog circuit is DC-coupled to keep coupling capacitors out of the signal path, with automatic offset compensation and current-source-stabilized output stages.

Power and Measured Performance
AVM's technical data rates the SA 8.3 S at more than 230 W per channel into 8 ohms, more than 420 W into 4 ohms and more than 700 W into 2 ohms. Two low-stray 1,000 VA toroidal transformers serve near-perfect channel separation, with 24 MOSFETs and 270,000 µF of filter capacitance per channel.
AVM rates distortion below 0.02% and intermodulation below 0.01% at 25 W into 4 ohms, with a signal-to-noise ratio above 94 dB(A). The frequency response runs from below 1 Hz to above 100 kHz (-3 dB), the slew rate is above 15 V/µs and the damping factor is above 400.
Inputs, Control and Finishes
The SA 8.3 S has RCA and XLR high-level inputs, with an input sensitivity of 1.25 V (for 350 W into 4 ohms) and input impedances of 20 kohm and 40 kohm. A trigger input takes 5 to 20 V DC, and AVM's AIR trigger (AVM Intelligent Remote) is built in. It has a dimmable OLED graphic display.
The aluminum enclosure comes in silver, brushed black, or the Cellini version with a chrome fascia, and the SA 8.3 S is delivered in a flight case.
