We are initially drawn to the presentation’s scale and authority. It sounds huge, with plenty of headroom and the ability to play at furniture rattling levels without any obvious signs of stress.

The Unison Research Unico 150 is the flagship of the Unico hybrid line, a dual-mono integrated amplifier that runs valves in both the input and driver stages ahead of a Hexfet output, delivering 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms. With zero global feedback, balanced and single-ended inputs, and bi-wire speaker terminals, it brings valve character to the speakers and rooms that need real power.
Key Features of the Unison Research Unico 150
- Flagship dual-mono hybrid: Two ECC83 input valves and two 6H30 driver valves run in Class A ahead of a Hexfet output stage, in a dual-mono layout.
- 150 watts per channel: 150+150W into 8 ohms, rising to 220+220W into 4 ohms for demanding loads.
- Zero global feedback: The Unico 150 runs with no global negative feedback and only 16dB of local feedback, using Unison Research's three-stage circuit.
- Balanced and single-ended inputs: Six line inputs in total, including two balanced XLR pairs and a fixed-gain AV bypass.
- Bi-wire speaker terminals: Two pairs of binding posts per channel for bi-wiring, plus a volume-controlled subwoofer output and a tape loop.
- Built in Italy: Hand-assembled by ARIA with selectable mains voltage, set for US 120V, and supplied with a remote control.
A Three-Stage Valve and Hexfet Circuit
The Unico 150 puts valves where they shape the sound and transistors where they do the heavy lifting. A pair of ECC83 double-triodes handles the input stage and a pair of 6H30 double-triodes runs the driver stage, both in pure Class A totem-pole configuration, before a Class AB Hexfet output stage with four complementary pairs per channel drives the speakers. Unison Research developed two circuit standards, a two-stage version for lower-powered amplifiers and a three-stage version for higher output, and the Unico 150 uses the three-stage circuit.
150 Watts, Dual Mono
Rated at 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 220 watts into 4 ohms, the Unico 150 is Unison Research's most powerful amplifier and is built as a dual-mono design, so each channel runs its own amplification with minimal interaction between left and right. That combination of valve front end and high-current Hexfet output is what lets the amplifier hold its composure on large or demanding loudspeakers where smaller hybrids run out of headroom.
Zero Global Feedback
The Unico 150 applies no global negative feedback, relying instead on 16dB of local feedback within the circuit. Designers use global feedback to lower distortion measurements, but many listeners feel it costs the music some life and immediacy. By keeping feedback local, Unison Research aims for a more open and natural presentation, and the amplifier still holds output resistance below 0.4 ohms across the audio band for firm control of the loudspeaker.
Balanced, Single-Ended, and Bypass Inputs
Connectivity covers six line-level inputs: three unbalanced RCA, two balanced XLR pairs, and one unbalanced bypass input that runs at fixed gain for slotting the amplifier into a home-theater system. Outputs include a tape loop and a volume-controlled subwoofer output, and each channel carries two pairs of speaker binding posts for bi-wiring. There is no onboard phono stage, so vinyl listeners add an external phono preamplifier of their choice.
Built in Italy
Unison Research builds the Unico 150 in Italy through its ARIA workshop. At 25kg it is a substantial piece, with a selectable mains transformer so US units arrive set for 120V operation, and it ships with a remote control for volume and source. The result is a flagship integrated that is meant to anchor a serious system for years rather than be replaced in a season.
About Unison Research
Unison Research is an Italian manufacturer known for valve and hybrid amplifiers that put music first. The Unico line is its hybrid family, combining valve preamplification with solid-state output stages to make the valve sound practical for everyday systems and a wide range of loudspeakers. The Unico 150 sits at the top of that family. Each Unico model is built in Italy.
Explore the Unison Research Unico Line
The Unico 150 is the flagship of Unison Research's Unico hybrid integrated range, delivering 150 watts per channel for demanding speakers and larger rooms. Just below it, the Unico 90 is a purist line-level design, the Unico Due adds an onboard DAC, the Unico Nuovo steps down in power, and the Unico Primo serves as the entry point.
