The R-Series uses the same engineering principles as the flagship S-Series but adapted for soft dome tweeters and pulp cone woofers. The number in the model name corresponds to how many drivers are in the array. Perlisten focuses heavily on beamforming which is aided by driver symmetry. They have applied ideas used in active/DSP speakers to a passive speaker design. It controls dispersion better and greatly reduces floor and ceiling reflections. This is why Perlisten speakers image the way they do. They create a very controlled vertical dispersion pattern with precise imaging even in rooms that are not heavily treated.

Can the Perlisten R5i-LR be used for left, center and right behind an acoustically transparent screen?

Yes. Perlisten designed it for exactly that: an LCR array behind an acoustically transparent screen, or a left and right pair in a media room. It is THX Ultra certified for LCR use and THX Dominus certified as a surround. If the center has to sit horizontally, for example under a screen that is not acoustically transparent, the R5i-C is the same speaker built for horizontal mounting, with the same drivers.

Does the R5i-LR need a back box in the wall?

No. The R5i-LR carries its own sealed enclosure: an integral aluminum extrusion rear enclosure, which Perlisten says keeps performance consistent and minimizes sound traveling into adjacent rooms. Because the cabinet is part of the speaker, the wall cavity does not tune the bass, and the 3-way acoustic suspension design behaves the same from one wall to the next. It needs 4.0 inches (101.7mm) of mounting depth.

Will the R5i-LR match my freestanding R-Series speakers?

Yes. Every R-Series model shares the same DPC-Array, three 26mm silk domes, and Perlisten timbre-matches the series in frequency response, power response and phase, not just in driver materials. The R5i-LR is based on the R5t tower and the R5m monitor and uses the same two 165mm HPF woofers, so it can sit in the front stage or the surrounds of a system built around freestanding R-Series speakers without a change in character as sound moves between them.

Can the R5i-LR be mounted on the wall instead of in it?

Yes. Perlisten makes on-wall frames for its R-Series and S-Series in-wall speakers, so the R5i-LR can be surface mounted where cutting into the wall is not practical, such as a finished wall or a stud in the way of the ideal position. The matching frame is the Perlisten S/R5i On-Wall Speaker Frame, which takes the R5i-LR as it would sit in a wall.
