The Oracle Audio Delphi Two-Piece Platter Upgrade is the most-requested factory upgrade for the Delphi turntable. The original one-piece platter forces you to thread the drive belt under the bottom of the platter while you set it on the bearing, a setup move that puts the belt and the bearing calibration at risk every time you change a belt. The two-piece design solves that, and the MkIV and MkV both ship with the new MkVI bearing assembly that's currently in the flagship Delphi MkVII.
This upgrade is sold direct from Oracle to its dealer network. This listing covers the three direct-bolt-on Delphis (MkIV through MkVI), which install without sending the turntable's sub-chassis back to the factory. MkI, MkII, and MkIII Delphis can also be upgraded, but the process is more involved (see the note at the bottom of this page).
How the Two-Piece Platter Works
The new two-piece platter assembly greatly facilitates drive belt installation and consequently protects the performance level of the Delphi turntable in time. With the new platter configuration, users no longer have to horizontally align the belt with the pulley while at the same time coordinating the vertical alignment of the massive main platter inside the bearing assembly. Installing the light inner platter-hub first is safely done with both hands, assuring no stress to the two groups of precision set screws holding the spindle inside the bearing. The drive belt is then easily installed around the pulley and the inner-platter hub. The final step is to gently sit the main platter ring on the inner platter hub, which is also safely done with both hands. This three-step procedure keeps the precise calibration of the Delphi bearing intact, which matters because the bearing assembly is central to the Delphi's performance.
The two-piece platter also contributes to a sonic improvement. The mechanical coupling of the inner hub and main platter ring further reduces platter resonances, which translates into reduced surface noise and music reproduced on a quieter background.
The MkVI Main Bearing (included with MkIV and MkV)
The MkVI bearing system kept the six-point contact design developed for the MkV but improved it. The six calibration set screws are made of PEEK, a high-strength, low-friction thermoplastic with high thermal stability. PEEK is virtually inert to dimensional changes from temperature fluctuation, which lets Oracle calibrate the main bearing with greater accuracy and tighter tolerances. That has a direct impact on retrieval of minute signals from the record groove and translates into better sound.
The MkVI bottom thrust plate is glass-filled Torlon, a polyamide-imide (PAI) high-strength plastic with the highest strength and stiffness of any thermoplastic and outstanding wear resistance. Its job is to limit the noise generated by the spinning platter, and its impact on sound quality is significant. The sonic benefits of the MkVI bearing system are most pronounced when combined with the Oracle MVSS upgrade.
Compatibility
This upgrade fits the Oracle Audio Delphi MkIV through MkVI. It is not compatible with the earlier MkI through MkIII generations, or with the current MkVII (the MkVII already ships with the two-piece platter and MkVI bearing).
Which Upgrade Fits Your Delphi
Each Delphi generation has a slightly different process. Find the row that matches yours, and reach out before you buy if anything's unclear. Mike will personally call you after your order to walk through your specific install and answer questions.
| Delphi Generation | What You Get and How It Ships |
|---|---|
| MkIV $3,635 |
Two-piece platter, drive belt, syringe of spindle oil, and a new MkVI bearing assembly. Your existing MkIV bearing ships back to Oracle as part of the upgrade. We handle the return logistics, on us. Your kit arrives with a sturdy return box, a prepaid international shipping label to Oracle in Quebec, and all the customs paperwork already filled out. Drop your old bearing in the box, hand it to the carrier, done. No postage, no customs forms, no trips to the post office. Start with the photo, not the order. Email a picture of your existing bearing mounting flange to support@listenroom.com first so Oracle can confirm the flange matches the sub-chassis screw holes. Once verified, place your order and we'll ship the kit in 5 to 7 business days. If the flange doesn't fit, we'll tell you up front so you're not stuck with anything you can't use. Mike will personally walk you through the install after your order. Once your old bearing reaches Oracle, plan on 1 to 3 weeks for them to recalibrate it and send it back. |

MkI, MkII, and MkIII Delphi owners: the upgrade is more complicated for your generation because the floating sub-chassis has to ship to Oracle for factory machining, but we can facilitate the whole process for you. Get in touch and we'll walk you through what's involved.
