Three RCA inputs (one phono, two line-level), a detachable headphone module with both 3.5mm and 6.35mm jacks, and THD of 0.0007% from a circuit that borrows directly from Chord's ULTIMA amplifier topology. Pair it with the Suzi power amplifier and the two lock together into a single integrated amplifier. Use it alone and it handles turntable, headphone, and preamp duties without breaking a sweat.

Chord Electronics Suzi Pre Phono Stage

The built-in phono stage handles both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges without an external box. MM loads at the standard 47k ohms. MC cartridges get three impedance settings selectable via a rear-panel button: 50 ohms for low-output coils, 235 ohms + 47pF, and 470 ohms + 47pF for higher-output MC designs. Gain switches between high and low to match cartridge output level. A grounding post on the rear panel handles turntable earth connections. The phono circuit shares the same low-noise design philosophy as Chord's dedicated Huei phono stage, though the Huei offers more granular loading options and a separate chassis for isolated operation.

Headphone Amplifier

The detachable headphone adapter module plugs into the right side of the Suzi Pre. It provides a 3.5mm jack for portable headphones and IEMs, and a 6.35mm jack for full-size cans. Output is rated at 160mW into 100 ohms, enough to drive demanding headphones like the Sennheiser HD 800S without strain. When the Suzi Pre is docked to the Suzi power amplifier, the headphone outputs remain active, giving you both speaker and headphone listening from one system. Remove the headphone module when docking the Suzi Pre to the Suzi amplifier; the headphone outputs then relocate to the Suzi's front panel.

Modular Integration with the Suzi System

The Suzi Pre is designed to physically dock with the Suzi power amplifier. Remove the Suzi's aluminum cover block, slide the Suzi Pre's female outputs into the Suzi's male inputs, secure with the supplied locking plate, and the two units become a single integrated amplifier. No interconnect cables between them. The Suzi Pre handles source selection, volume control, and phono duties; the Suzi handles speaker drive at 30 watts per channel. Power flows from the Suzi to the Suzi Pre, so you only need one mains connection for both.

The same docking architecture lets the Hugo 2 DAC or the Hugo 2 with 2go streamer sit on top of the Suzi power amplifier instead. This modularity means you can start with one configuration and change it as your system evolves.

Suzi Pre as a Standalone Preamplifier

Without the Suzi power amplifier, the Suzi Pre works as a standalone preamp and headphone amp. The stereo RCA output feeds any power amplifier or pair of active speakers. Volume control, input switching, and phono playback all function independently. The 12V DC power supply is included for standalone operation. If your system already has a power amplifier you like, the Suzi Pre slots in as a compact, full-featured front end with phono built in.

Where the Suzi Pre Fits in the Chord Lineup

The Suzi Pre is Chord's most compact preamplifier and the only one in the Hugo range with a built-in phono stage. For a dedicated phono-only solution, the Huei offers more loading flexibility in the Qutest range. For a larger Table Top system, the Hugo TT2 serves as DAC and preamplifier with balanced outputs, though it lacks phono. The Suzi Pre fills the gap for listeners who want analog source handling, headphone drive, and preamp control in the smallest possible Chord chassis.
