The Michell inverted bearing assembly for Gyro turntables, and one of the most common service parts in the Michell range. This precision bearing carries the platter on the floating chassis design that isolates it from external vibration.
How To Tell If Yours Needs Replacing
Take the belt off and spin the platter by hand. A healthy bearing has essentially zero drag: come back two minutes later and it should still be turning. If it spins down and stops inside about 15 seconds, the bearing is worn and it is time for a new one.
What Wears A Bearing Out
Two things account for most failures. The first is oil that has not been changed often enough. The second is environment: a turntable left somewhere with large temperature swings, or with high humidity, will go through bearings faster than one kept in stable conditions.
Compatibility
Important: If you have an aluminum platter, you will also need the Michell Gyro Delrin Platter, as aluminum platters are not compatible with the inverted bearing system. Contact us before ordering to confirm compatibility with your specific turntable.
