Matrix Audio OFC Hi-Fi Power Cable Overview

Description

The Matrix Audio OFC Hi-Fi Power Cable is a 1.8m audio-grade AC mains cable built to power the company's Hi-Fi components. Three 2.5mm² stranded 6N OFC conductors run inside a paper-and-cotton-yarn-filled core, wrapped in aluminum foil shielding and finished with a braided nylon sleeve. Resin-sealed pure copper plug contacts terminate at a US NEMA 5-15P plug head and IEC C13 connector.

Key Features of the Matrix Audio OFC Power Cable
  • Three 2.5mm² 6N OFC conductors: Each conductor uses seven twisted wires, with each wire built from seven strands of 0.25mm² 6N (99.9999% pure) OFC. Multi-strand 6N OFC carries current cleanly without the grain-boundary noise of standard OFC.
  • Aluminum foil shielding: Wraps the conductor bundle to reject external EMI from nearby switching power supplies, transformers, and amplifiers, keeping the noise floor low.
  • Braided nylon outer sleeve: Mechanical protection plus a layer of vibration damping, finished in the same aesthetic as Matrix Audio's interconnect cables.
  • Cotton yarn and paper core fill: Internal fillers keep the conductors positioned and the cable flexible without using cheap plastic spacers that can introduce dielectric coloration.
  • Resin-sealed pure copper plug contacts: The cable-to-plug junction is sealed with resin to prevent oxidation at the contact point, so the connection stays clean over years of service.
  • US NEMA 5-15P to IEC C13: Standard 3-conductor US household plug on the wall side, IEC C13 on the component side, rated 250VAC/10A.
  • Voiced for Matrix Audio components: Tuned to complement the MS-1, MP-1, MA-1, MD-1, and other Matrix Hi-Fi components, but works as a general audio-grade upgrade for any IEC-input component.
Three 2.5mm² 6N OFC Conductors

The cable is built around three main conductors, each with a 2.5mm² cross-section. Each conductor is composed of seven twisted wires, and each wire is itself made from seven strands of 0.25mm² 6N OFC (oxygen-free copper, 99.9999% purity). This nested multi-strand construction increases conducting surface area while keeping the cable flexible enough to route behind a rack without forcing the IEC inlet on the back of a component.

Aluminum Foil Shielding and Braided Nylon

The conductor bundle is wrapped in aluminum foil shielding before the outer braided nylon sleeve goes on. The foil rejects external EMI from neighboring gear (switching supplies, class-D oscillators, Wi-Fi routers, and dimmer circuits) before that interference can ride the AC line into the powered component. The braided nylon outer sleeve provides mechanical protection and a layer of vibration damping. Cotton yarn and paper inside the core fill the space between conductors and act as a soft, low-loss dielectric.

Resin-Sealed Pure Copper Plug Contacts

The plug contacts are pure copper, not the brass that ships on commodity power cables. At the junction between the cable and each plug, the connection point is sealed with resin to prevent oxidation. The resin seal matters because the copper-to-conductor contact is the slowest to corrode in a clean environment, but in a typical rack with airflow plus dust and humidity swings, an unsealed contact can develop oxide layers that raise resistance over time. The seal keeps the contact clean for the life of the cable.

US NEMA 5-15P to IEC C13

The wall-side plug is a standard US NEMA 5-15P 3-prong household plug. The component-side connector is IEC 60320 C13, rated 250VAC at 10A, fitting the universal IEC inlet on virtually any Hi-Fi amplifier, preamp, DAC, or streamer. No region-specific adapters needed for US households.

Compatibility

Voiced for Matrix Audio's Hi-Fi line (MS-1, MS-1c, MP-1, MA-1, MD-1, MD-1P, NT-1, TT-1, TS-1, ND-1, NA-1) but works as a drop-in audio-grade upgrade for any component with a standard IEC C13 inlet, including amplifiers, preamplifiers, DACs, music streamers, network switches, and source components from any brand.

FAQ

What plug does the OFC power cable use, and will it fit my outlet?

It has a US NEMA 5-15P three-prong wall plug on one end and a standard IEC 60320 C13 connector on the component end, both rated 250VAC/10A. For a US household it plugs straight into a normal wall outlet with no adapter needed.

Will the OFC power cable fit my amplifier, DAC, or streamer?

Yes, as long as the component has a standard IEC C13 power inlet, which most amplifiers, preamps, DACs, streamers, and network switches use. It is voiced for the Matrix Hi-Fi line but works as an audio-grade power upgrade for gear from any brand with that inlet.

How long is the OFC power cable, and what makes it audio-grade?

It is 1.8m long. The build uses 6N OFC copper (2.5mm by 3 conductors) with a cotton and paper core fill, an aluminum-foil shield, and a braided nylon sleeve, terminated with resin-sealed pure-copper plug contacts rather than brass. The goal is a clean, low-noise power feed to your components.
