The Triode 25 Black Edition celebrates Unison Research's most successful integrated amplifier with enhanced circuitry and a striking piano black aesthetic. Delivering 50 watts in pentode mode or 30 watts in triode mode, the Triode 25 Black Edition features Gold Lion valves, an integrated DAC with USB input supporting PCM up to 384kHz and native DSD256, and the flexibility to fine-tune feedback and bias to match your speakers and preferences.
KEY FEATURES
- Dual Operating Modes: Switch between 50W pentode and 30W triode for different speaker loads and sonic preferences
- Gold Lion Valves: Premium 2x ECC83, 1x ECC82 signal tubes and 4x KT77 power tubes in push-pull configuration
- Integrated DAC3: USB (PCM to 384kHz, DSD native to 256x, DoP to 128x), Toslink, and SPDIF up to 192kHz
- Adjustable Feedback: Select 10dB or 12dB feedback to tune damping and tonal character
- User-Adjustable Bias: Fine-tune power tube operation for optimal performance
- Subwoofer Output: Unfiltered RCA output maintains the amplifier's sonic signature
BLACK EDITION UPGRADES
The Black Edition features revised signal path and power management circuitry for lower distortion and increased headroom. The input selection uses micro relays with Return GND technology, matching the approach used in Unison Research's reference components. The premium piano black wood front panel and gun metal finish make a visual statement.
FLEXIBLE CONNECTIVITY
Three analog RCA inputs handle traditional sources, while the built-in DAC3 adds three digital inputs for streaming, computer audio, and optical sources. Pair with high-sensitivity speakers to experience the full potential of this amplifier. The subwoofer output lets you integrate a sub while maintaining the Triode 25's tube character throughout the bass range.

What changed from the original Triode 25?
What changed from the original Triode 25?
Unison says it reduced distortion and raised power by 20% in triode mode and 10% in pentode mode: the Black Edition makes 50 watts in pentode and 30 in triode, against 45 and 25. It moves from EL34 to four KT77 output valves, revises the signal path and power supply, and adds three digital inputs (USB, S/PDIF and Toslink) through its built-in DAC3.
Triode or pentode mode on the Triode 25 Black Edition?
Triode or pentode mode on the Triode 25 Black Edition?
Unison says triode mode roughly halves the output power and gives the typical character of triode operation. You can switch between them while it plays, though Unison advises against repeated switching, a click may be heard, and small bias differences between modes are to be expected and corrected in the normal way.
How do I set the bias?
How do I set the bias?
Unison recommends checking it after each power-on. Using the built-in meter, adjust each channel's potentiometer until the needle sits in the center between the green and red zones, then return the bias selector to its center position for listening. Unison says too little current reduces power and raises distortion, while too much shortens valve life.
Triode 25 Black Edition or Simply Italy Black Edition?
Triode 25 Black Edition or Simply Italy Black Edition?
The Triode 25 Black Edition drives four KT77s in push-pull class AB for 50 watts in pentode or 30 in triode, with manual bias. The Simply Italy Black Edition runs two KT77s in pure class A for 10 watts, with electronic bias that needs no adjustment. Both have the DAC3 digital inputs and a subwoofer output.
What connections and setup does the Triode 25 Black Edition have?
What connections and setup does the Triode 25 Black Edition have?
Three RCA line inputs plus USB, S/PDIF and Toslink, an unfiltered subwoofer output and a line out. The remote controls the volume. Unison sets the mains voltage at the factory for the destination country, and it cannot be changed by the user. It weighs 20kg, draws up to 300 watts, and sounds best after about 15 minutes of warm-up.
