The Dynavector DRT XV-1t is the pinnacle of Dynavector's 60-year cartridge engineering program. It outputs 0.35mV through 16-micron PCOCC coils wound on a square armature, driven by eight alnico magnets, with a PF line-contact stylus on a solid boron cantilever. Channel separation reaches 30dB, frequency response is flat within ±1dB from 20Hz to 20kHz, and the body is precision-machined bamboo finished in traditional Japanese urushi lacquer.
This is the cartridge Dynavector builds when cost is not the primary constraint. The XV-1t represents decades of accumulated knowledge in magnetic circuit design, mechanical damping, and signal path optimization. Every component is selected and assembled by hand to tolerances that justify the price point. It ships in an exclusive walnut case, and the urushi finish on bamboo isn't cosmetic decoration. It's an acoustic choice: bamboo's natural damping characteristics complement the mechanical behavior of the generator, and the lacquer treatment controls resonance in ways that metal bodies cannot. We carry it for customers who have heard everything else and want what a fully realized MC cartridge sounds like.
Key Features of the Dynavector DRT XV-1t
- Solid Boron Cantilever: 6mm, 0.3mm diameter boron rod with special armature for maximum rigidity and minimal moving mass
- PF Line Contact Stylus: 7 x 30 micron contact radius extracts the finest groove detail with minimal record wear
- Eight Alnico Magnets: Multiple alnico column magnets create an exceptionally stable, linear magnetic field across the entire coil excursion
- 16-Micron PCOCC Coil Windings: Ultra-fine single-crystal copper wire on a square armature for low mass and maximum signal purity
- Square-Shaped Armature: Corrosion-resistant armature provides improved linearity in magnetic flux distribution
- Urushi-Lacquered Bamboo Body: Hand-finished in traditional Japanese lacquer for controlled resonance and acoustic optimization
- Flux Damper: Patented technology stabilizes magnetic flux in the air gap for consistent performance across all signal levels
- Hand-Assembled: Each cartridge individually built and tested, shipped in an exclusive walnut presentation case
Diamond-Class Generator Design
The XV-1t's generator is the most sophisticated in Dynavector's lineup. Eight alnico column magnets surround the coil assembly, creating a magnetic field of exceptional uniformity and density. Where lesser cartridges use one or two magnets and accept the resulting flux non-linearity, the XV-1t's multi-magnet array ensures that the coils move through a consistent field regardless of amplitude. This translates to lower distortion at all signal levels and a more natural, effortless dynamic range from the quietest detail to the loudest climax.
16-Micron PCOCC Coil Technology
The XV-1t's coils use 16-micron PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) wire, among the finest gauge used in any cartridge. Thinner wire means less moving mass on the armature, which directly improves transient speed and tracking accuracy. The PCOCC process eliminates grain boundaries in the copper crystal structure, removing micro-junctions that impede signal flow. Wound on the square-shaped armature, these coils produce a 0.35mV output with 24 ohms impedance, providing enough signal for quality MC phono stages while maintaining the low-impedance advantages of a true MC design.
Square Armature and Flux Linearity
The armature at the heart of the XV-1t's generator uses a square cross-section manufactured from corrosion-resistant material. This geometry provides more uniform magnetic flux distribution across the coil windings compared to the round armatures found in conventional cartridges. The result is improved linearity in the voltage output relative to stylus displacement, meaning the electrical signal more accurately represents the mechanical movement of the stylus tip. In complex musical passages where multiple frequencies interact, this linearity preserves separation between instruments and maintains tonal accuracy.
Urushi-Lacquered Bamboo Body
The XV-1t's body is precision-machined from heat-treated bamboo and finished with multiple coats of urushi, a traditional Japanese lacquer. This is not a cosmetic choice. Bamboo has natural vibration-damping characteristics that differ fundamentally from metal or plastic bodies. It absorbs mechanical energy from the cantilever assembly in a controlled, progressive manner rather than reflecting it back into the generator. The urushi lacquer treatment adds hardness to the surface while preserving the bamboo's acoustic properties, creating a body that is both mechanically stable and acoustically optimized. The resulting cartridge has a lower noise floor and more natural decay characteristics than metal-bodied designs.
Alnico Magnet Array
Alnico magnets have been central to Dynavector's upper-tier cartridges for decades. The XV-1t takes this further with eight individual alnico column magnets arranged to create maximum flux density with minimum distortion. Alnico's inherent characteristics include low magnetic resistance and stable flux output over time. Unlike neodymium, which provides brute force but can introduce harshness, alnico delivers its power smoothly, with the natural transient characteristics that high-resolution systems demand. The multi-magnet configuration also allows Dynavector to shape the field geometry precisely, optimizing it for the square armature and fine-gauge coils.
DRT XV-1t Technical Notes
At 12.0 grams with 10mm/N compliance, the XV-1t pairs with medium to medium-high mass tonearms. The 24-ohm impedance and 0.35mV output work well with quality MC phono stages. Tracking force is 1.8-2.2g with 2.0g nominal. Standard half-inch mount.
Explore the Full Dynavector Cartridge Range
The DRT XV-1t sits at the absolute top of Dynavector's lineup. Its sibling, the DRT XV-1s, shares the direct rear terminal platform with a stainless steel body at a lower price point. Below the flagship tier, the Te Kaitora Rua offers boron cantilever performance with PCOCC coils and titanium construction, and the XX-2A provides a boron cantilever with alnico magnet at a more accessible price. Each step in the Dynavector range adds meaningful technology and refinement.
