Dynavector DV CL-1 Headshell Wire Set

The Dynavector DV CL-1 is a set of four headshell lead wires made from ultra-fine, high-purity copper with rhodium-plated connectors. The wire uses stranded construction with individual copper strands under 50 microns in diameter, identical to the conductor material used in Dynavector's CP-1 phono cable. At 40mm length, the CL-1 fits standard headshell-to-cartridge connections and is compatible with both Dynavector cartridges and most third-party headshells.

Headshell lead wires are the first link in the signal chain after the cartridge, and the CL-1 ensures that connection is as transparent as possible. The pure copper construction avoids the mixed-metal junctions that can introduce subtle colorations, while the rhodium plating on the connectors provides a hard, corrosion-resistant contact surface. The color-coded cartridge end (1.2mm inner diameter) and headshell end (1.0mm inner diameter) ensure broad compatibility and easy identification during installation.

Why Headshell Leads Matter

The signal from a moving coil cartridge is measured in fractions of a millivolt. At these levels, every connection in the signal chain matters. Stock headshell leads use generic copper alloys with nickel or tin-plated connectors, introducing mixed-metal junctions that can add subtle colorations and resistive losses. The CL-1 replaces these compromises with a single, consistent conductor material from cartridge pin to headshell terminal.

The stranded construction uses individual copper strands under 50 microns in diameter, the same conductor material found in Dynavector's CP-1 phono cable. This ultra-fine stranding increases flexibility while reducing skin effect at audio frequencies. The rhodium plating on connectors is harder and more corrosion-resistant than gold, maintaining clean contact surfaces through years of use and repeated cartridge swaps.

Installation

The CL-1 uses color-coded connectors for easy identification: match colors to your cartridge pin assignments (typically red = right hot, green = right ground, white = left hot, blue = left ground). The 1.2mm inner diameter on the cartridge end fits standard cartridge pins. The 1.0mm headshell end fits standard headshell terminals. At 40mm length, the CL-1 provides enough slack for comfortable routing without excess wire that could pick up interference or create microphonic vibration.
