The Corinium Story: Innovation Rooted in Heritage
The Corinium is the culmination of Acoustic Energy’s rich heritage and commitment to pushing the boundaries of loudspeaker design. Drawing inspiration from their legendary AE1 loudspeaker, the team sought to create a speaker that embodies their core values: dynamics, clarity, and tonal accuracy.
Over three decades of engineering expertise are distilled into the Corinium. The design process began with a simple yet ambitious goal: to deliver a loudspeaker that combines the precision of a studio monitor, the emotional engagement of live music, and the aesthetic refinement of high-end furniture. Named after the Roman name for their hometown of Cirencester, England, the Corinium represents the pinnacle of Acoustic Energy’s journey in crafting world-class audio solutions.
Mat Spandl, Managing Director and Chief Designer, explains:
“We started with a blank slate, questioning every aspect of loudspeaker design. What emerged is a speaker that balances groundbreaking innovation with timeless craftsmanship, delivering a performance that’s as dynamic as it is natural.”
Drivers
At the heart of the Corinium are bespoke drivers engineered to push the limits of performance:
- The 29mm soft dome tweeter utilizes a newly developed material that’s lighter than carbon fiber, achieving lightning-fast transients, lower coloration, and exceptional detail.
- The 120mm carbon fiber midrange driver is optimized for tonal accuracy and natural sound reproduction, covering five octaves with remarkable clarity.
- Dual 140mm carbon fiber bass drivers deliver controlled, powerful low frequencies, combining speed and impact for a dynamic listening experience.
Precision Crossover Network
The 3-way crossover blends the output of each driver seamlessly, using high-quality components like air-core inductors and metalized film capacitors. This ensures smooth transitions between frequency ranges and minimizes phase distortion, delivering a coherent and immersive soundstage.
Hybrid Cabinet Design
The Corinium’s cabinet is a masterpiece of both form and function. Its curved Resonance Suppression Composite (RSC) panels vary in thickness from 22mm to 50mm, minimizing cabinet vibrations and unwanted resonances. The 4° tilt aligns sound waves from each driver, ensuring perfect timing at the listening position. The 6mm aluminum front baffle anchors the drivers securely while isolating them from cabinet-induced distortions.
The result is a speaker that’s not only beautiful to look at but also acoustically transparent, allowing your music to shine through with stunning clarity.
Versatile Performance
Whether placed in a dedicated listening room or a shared living space, the Corinium adapts effortlessly to its environment. Its high sensitivity (92dB/m/2.83v) and 4-ohm impedance make it compatible with a wide range of amplifiers, while its compact footprint ensures easy integration into most setups. Designed to handle everything from delicate acoustic tracks to thunderous orchestral pieces, the Corinium delivers a consistently engaging performance at all listening levels.

What amplifier does the Corinium need?
What amplifier does the Corinium need?
Acoustic Energy recommends 100 watts or more into 8 ohms, ideally from an amplifier that can double its output into 4 ohms, since the Corinium presents a 4-ohm load. Sensitivity is a healthy 92 dB, so these are not hard to move; current delivery is what matters. The Audia Flight FLS 9 is a strong match, holding its grip down to 2 ohms.
Why doesn't the Corinium have bi-wire terminals?
Why doesn't the Corinium have bi-wire terminals?
By design. Acoustic Energy fits a single pair of terminals and solders the internal OFC wiring directly to the drivers, avoiding the bridging links that come with bi-wire plates. One good speaker cable is all it needs.
Why are the Corinium cabinets tilted back?
Why are the Corinium cabinets tilted back?
The 4-degree rearward tilt time-aligns the drivers, so output from the tweeter, midrange, and woofers arrives together at the listening position. The tilt is built in through longer front spikes on the outrigger base; you do not need to angle anything yourself.
What separates the Corinium from the AE520?
What separates the Corinium from the AE520?
The Corinium leads Acoustic Energy's range, developed over three years with a new Tetoron-dome tweeter, carbon fibre midrange and bass drivers, a curved Resonance Suppression Composite cabinet, and a 6mm aluminum front baffle. AE describes the AE520 as the pinnacle of the previous generation; the Corinium is where the newest driver technology debuted, and the current 300 Series borrows its tweeter design.
What finishes does the Corinium come in?
