The Ruark RS1 is a 100W powered subwoofer designed to add deep, controlled bass to compact Ruark speaker systems. Its custom 170mm long-throw driver and tuned passive radiator deliver bass extension down to 25Hz in a cabinet small enough to sit alongside your speakers rather than hiding behind the sofa. Adjustable crossover and volume controls with a phase switch let you dial in the low end to match your room and system. Available in Rich Walnut or Satin Charcoal to match the MR1 Mk3 and other Ruark products.
The RS1 connects directly to the subwoofer output on the Ruark MR1 Mk3 or Ruark R410, and works with any system that has a mono RCA subwoofer or pre-out.

RS1 Origin
The RS1 exists because MR1 customers asked for it. After the MR1 became Ruark's most requested desktop speaker, the consistent feedback was the same: the sound is exceptional, but can you go deeper? Ruark also recognized a gap in the market for a subwoofer with real design intent. Where most subwoofers are unattractive in a domestic setting, the tailored grille and hand-crafted wood panels of the RS1 mean it fits seamlessly alongside your speakers and furniture, making it a product you want on display rather than hidden away.
RS1 Sound Quality
The RS1 is not a room-shaking home theater sub. It is a music sub. Its custom 170mm long-throw driver is paired with a tuned passive radiator, designed for articulate low frequencies that support music without overpowering it. The 100W Class D amplifier maintains tight control over dynamics, delivering speed and clarity at all volume levels, even under demanding material.
Ruark tuned the RS1 to enhance rhythm and tone rather than sheer output. The low string of a cello gets real weight. The kick in a jazz trio hits with presence. Vinyl pressings gain a warmth and fullness that smaller speakers simply cannot reproduce on their own. The soft clipping filter in the amplifier prevents harsh distortion at high output, gracefully compressing peaks instead of breaking up.
RS1 Design and Build
Most subwoofers are built to be hidden. The RS1 is built to be seen. Available in Rich Walnut veneer or Satin Charcoal lacquer with a slate grey acoustic cloth grille, it matches the rest of Ruark's 100 Series visually. The compact proportions (H300 x W250 x D265mm, 6.7kg) and furniture-grade materials make it something you place beside your speakers rather than behind the sofa. The passive radiator design keeps the enclosure sealed and tight, with no port noise or chuffing even at higher volumes.

RS1 Setup and Controls
Setup is straightforward. A mono RCA input connects to any subwoofer or pre-out. Controls on the back panel let you adjust the crossover frequency (50 to 180Hz) and volume level, plus a phase switch (0 or 180 degrees) to suit your system and room. For most desktop setups, start with the crossover around 80-100Hz and adjust by ear. Auto-on/standby activates the sub when it detects a signal and puts it to sleep after 15 minutes of silence, so you do not need to manage the power manually.

RS1 Compatibility
The RS1 was designed primarily to pair with the Ruark MR1 Mk3 desktop speakers, but it works with any Ruark system that has a subwoofer output, including the R410, R610, and R810. Any component with a mono RCA subwoofer or pre-out (up to 2.3Vrms) can drive the RS1. The universal 100-240V power supply works on US power without a converter.
