The Cambridge Audio SX50 Bookshelf Speakers are proof that you don't need a massive footprint to enjoy massive sound. Made for bookshelves, desks or media units, these speakers deliver a surprisingly rich and detailed audio performance that belies their compact dimensions. Cambridge tuned the crossover so both drivers work in harmony, maintaining phase accuracy for an immersive stereo image.
Despite measuring just 225mm in height, the SX50 uses a 135mm (5.25") treated paper cone woofer. This material strikes the perfect balance between stiffness and lightness, allowing the cone to move quickly for accurate transients while maintaining the structural integrity needed for punchy bass. The result is a sound that feels full and authoritative, even when the speakers are tucked away on a shelf.
Great sound is about balance, and the SX50 pairs its capable woofer with a sophisticated 25mm (1") silk dome tweeter. Unlike harder materials that can sound harsh in near-field listening environments (like a desk), the silk dome offers a smooth, non-fatiguing high-frequency response.
Every element of the SX50's construction is focused on audio purity. The cabinet is rigid MDF, designed using computer-aided modeling to minimize unwanted resonance. Optimized crossover tuning maintains phase accuracy between the drivers, and the rear bass reflex port adds warmth and depth to the low end.
