Designed for discerning listeners, the Audia Flight FLS 1 Fully Balanced Stereo Preamplifier delivers accurate sound and reliable control while also serving as a headphone power amplifier. Positioned as a leading choice in its category, the FLS 1 integrates high-performance components with versatile connectivity, providing an engaging and balanced music experience. Perfect for high-end audio systems, it offers customizable options to cater to diverse listening preferences.

Key Features

  • Dual Mono Configuration: Each channel is assembled on separate circuit boards, enhancing channel separation and signal integrity.
  • Powerful Headphone Amplifier: Delivers 12 W RMS into 8 Ω with 10 V RMS output, capable of driving a wide range of headphones with high current and precise control.
  • Versatile Connectivity: Includes three unbalanced (RCA) inputs, two balanced (XLR) inputs, one unbalanced (RCA) output, one balanced (XLR) output, and one unbalanced (RCA) record output.
  • Adjustable Gain Settings: Gain range of -90 dB to +10 dB with 0.5 dB resolution, allowing for precise adjustment to match various audio sources.
  • Expandable with Optional Modules: Supports plug-and-play optional cards for MM/MC phono inputs, additional RCA inputs, and a high-resolution DAC module with multiple digital inputs.

Design and Build

The FLS 1 features a sleek brushed aluminum chassis that combines durability with a modern aesthetic featuring an engraved "Audia Flight" logo on the top cover, while the brushed and anodized aluminum remote control complements the unit's sophisticated look. The clear OLED blue display ensures easy navigation and operation. Internally, the preamplifier is powered by three toroidal transformers enclosed within a metal shield, providing low-noise power supplies that maintain the integrity of the audio signal.

Performance

The FLS 1 offers a frequency response ranging from 0.3 Hz to 500 KHz (-3 dB), ensuring a wide audio spectrum is accurately reproduced. With a total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 0.05% and a signal-to-noise ratio of 110 dB, the preamp delivers a clean and clear listening experience. The high slew-rate of over 100 V/µs allows the preamp to respond quickly to changes in music dynamics. Whether streaming high-resolution files or driving headphones, the FLS 1 maintains precise control and high current delivery.

Technology

At the core of the FLS 1 is Audia Flight's advanced headphone amplification technology, providing relaxed music listening through precise control. The fully balanced design minimizes interference and crosstalk between channels, maintaining signal purity. The high-end volume control, combined with dual mono circuitry, offers accurate adjustments. Optional modules expand the capabilities of the FLS1, allowing integration with MM/MC cartridges, additional analog inputs, and high-resolution digital sources with galvanic isolation to prevent electrical interference.

Versatility and Compatibility

The FLS 1 integrates with a variety of audio systems. It features multiple input and output options, including unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) connections, ensuring compatibility with turntables, CD players, DACs, and other audio sources. Inputs can be activated or deactivated, and gain settings adjusted by ±6 dB to match specific equipment and user preferences. The plug-and-play optional modules enable easy expansion, making the FLS1 adaptable to evolving audio setups.

Optional Boards & Installation Bays

The FLS 1 has two removable rear-panel bays, A bay (top) and B bay (bottom), where Audia Flight's optional boards install. Choose a configuration above for factory-installed boards (analog only, with DAC, with phono, or with both DAC and phono), or add boards later as standalone purchases. Up to two boards can be installed at once, one per bay.

Optional board bay assignments:

Boards that share a bay are mutually exclusive: DAC and XLR cannot both be installed (both A bay), and Phono and RCA cannot both be installed (both B bay). The factory DAC + Phono configuration occupies one of each bay, leaving no room for additional boards.
