When it comes to the DV507 coloring the sound, I've got to say it is extremely neutral. Overall, I have found this arm extremely neutral. Since the arm (literally) doesn't contribute to the sound, the images stay sharp, clean and proportionally correct, something we don't normally experience with other arms. If you are looking for the ultimate, sonically inert tone arm (or as close as one can get), you may have just found it in the DV 507 MkII. It is about as uncolored an arm as you will find. It tracks like the champ that it is, both vertically and horizontally.

The Dynavector DV 507 Mk2 is a bi-axis inertia-controlled tonearm that separates horizontal and vertical movement into independent mechanical systems. This gives it large horizontal inertia for stable tracking across warped records while maintaining minimal vertical inertia for accurate groove tracing, with electromagnetic damping, a dynamic balance tracking force system, and high-precision stainless steel bearings throughout.
Most tonearms compromise: a single pivot handles both planes of motion, so optimizing for one axis means sacrificing the other. The 507 Mk2 rejects that trade-off entirely. By giving horizontal and vertical movement their own independent arm structures, Dynavector solves the fundamental engineering conflict that limits conventional gimbal and unipivot designs. The result is a tonearm that tracks warped records with the authority of a heavy arm while reading groove detail with the sensitivity of a lightweight one. It's the kind of engineering that makes you question why everyone else doesn't do it this way.
Key Features of the Dynavector DV 507 Mk2
- Bi-Axis Inertia Control: Independent horizontal and vertical arm systems optimize inertia separately for each plane of motion
- Electromagnetic Damping: Non-contact eddy current system using neodymium magnets provides smooth, wear-free damping without mechanical degradation
- Dynamic Balance Tracking Force: Precision spiral spring maintains consistent force regardless of record warping, adjustable via calibrated dial in 0.2g increments
- High-Precision Stainless Steel Bearings: Horizontal sensitivity below 50mg, vertical sensitivity below 40mg for micro-detail retrieval
- Dynamic Sub-Arm Damper: Eliminates unwanted resonances in the 100-150Hz range that can color bass reproduction
- VTA Adjustment: 0-7mm range via height-adjusting lever for precise vertical tracking angle optimization
- 6N/4NOFC Hybrid Internal Wiring: Pure 6N copper lead wires and double-balanced shielded arm cable for clean signal transmission
- 241mm Effective Length: Optimized geometry with 15mm overhang and 21.5-degree offset angle
Bi-Axis Design Principle
In a conventional tonearm, a single bearing assembly handles all movement. Increasing the arm mass improves stability and resistance to external vibration but reduces the arm's ability to follow vertical undulations in the record surface. The DV 507 Mk2's solution is elegant: two separate arm structures, each optimized for its axis. The horizontal arm provides the mass and stability needed to resist skating forces and external vibration, while the vertical sub-arm remains light and responsive. This separation means the arm can accommodate cartridges from 15 to 35 grams (including headshell) without compromise in either plane.
Electromagnetic Damping System
The 507 Mk2 uses a non-contact electromagnetic damping mechanism rather than conventional fluid or friction-based systems. A curved rod moves through a magnetic field generated by powerful neodymium magnets, and the resulting eddy currents provide smooth, progressive damping force that returns the arm to its rest state. Because there is no physical contact between the damping elements, there is no wear, no degradation over time, and no temperature sensitivity. The damping characteristics remain consistent from the first use to the thousandth, and there is no fluid to leak or dry out.
Dynamic Balance Tracking Force
Tracking force is applied through a precision spiral spring mechanism rather than counterweight offset. This dynamic balance approach maintains consistent downforce regardless of the record's surface angle, which matters significantly on warped records. Where a statically balanced arm's tracking force varies as the arm rises and falls with warps, the 507 Mk2's spring system compensates automatically. Force is adjusted via a calibrated dial in 0.2g increments, covering a 0-38g range that accommodates everything from delicate MC cartridges to heavier vintage designs.
Bearing Precision
The 507 Mk2 uses high-precision stainless steel bearings selected for extremely low friction. Horizontal sensitivity is specified at less than 50 milligrams, meaning the arm will respond to forces as small as the weight of a single grain of rice. Vertical sensitivity is even finer at under 40 milligrams. This bearing quality is essential to the bi-axis design, as any friction in the vertical bearings would defeat the purpose of the lightweight sub-arm. The stainless steel construction also provides long-term stability and resistance to wear.
DV 507 Mk2 Headshell and Wiring
The included aluminum alloy headshell weighs 15.4 grams and uses an EIA-standard 4-pin connector with rhodium-coated contact pins for reliable, low-resistance connections. Internal lead wires are pure 6N copper. The arm cable is a double-balanced shielded design using 4NOFC/6N hybrid construction, terminated with a machined aluminum DIN-standard 5-pin connector. This wiring approach balances signal purity with practical shielding against interference.
Installation Requirements
The DV 507 Mk2 requires a 29mm fixing hole with a pivot-to-spindle distance of 226mm. Height is adjustable from 39-72mm at the sub-arm center, accommodating a wide range of turntable plinth configurations. At 1,380 grams net weight, the arm requires a turntable with adequate bearing and plinth mass to support it properly. The arm's overall length is 306mm (326mm with headshell installed). VTA can be fine-tuned post-installation via the 0-7mm height adjustment lever.

Finally fit and finish. Here SME is the benchmark and has been for many years. The Dynavector is the first arm I've seen that matches this standard, if you imagine SME going into heavy engineering then you get an idea of the quality of the 507. I grew to appreciate this quality of ease, the lack of artifice, and as sometimes happens the 507 insinuated itself into my affections rather than blinding me with a quick infatuation. OK I bought it. Along with the Opera LP 5.0 it will be the main source for the system.
