UFPD 2 Amplification
Primare’s UFPD 2 technology is a proprietary Class-D analog amplification platform with ultra-fast signal tracking and linear output across the entire audible spectrum. With 150 watts per channel at 8 ohms, the I35 provides high current delivery and dynamic headroom for a wide range of loudspeakers. Despite its speed and precision, the sound remains smooth and natural, avoiding the sterility often associated with digital switching amps.
DM36 DAC Module
The optional DM36 digital-to-analog converter is a fully integrated module built around the ESS ES9068A chipset. It offers support for PCM signals up to 384kHz/32-bit, native DSD256, and full MQA decoding. The DAC also provides selectable upsampling for system tuning. Digital inputs include Toslink, coaxial, and USB-B for connection to streamers, transports, and computers. This module is included with the I35 DM36 and I35 Prisma versions.
SM35 Prisma Streaming Module
The Prisma module expands the I35’s capabilities with full network streaming. It supports AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, and Chromecast built-in, with Roon Ready support coming via firmware update. Multi-room and multi-zone playback is accessible through the Prisma app, which offers control over playback from NAS libraries, cloud streaming platforms, or mobile devices. The SM35 module is included in the I35 Prisma configuration.

The amplifier delivers 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 300 watts into 4 ohms with consistent 26dB feedback loop gain across the entire audio bandwidth, ensuring vanishingly low distortion and ruler-flat frequency response. THD+N measures less than 0.009% at 10W into 8 ohms across 20Hz to 20kHz, while signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 100dB. Standby consumption is less than 0.5W, reflecting the efficiency inherent in the UFPD 2 platform.

The I35 easily upstaged the Primare I20, the excellent 70Wpc integrated reviewed in Issue 143. Even in the midst of elite company and at a fraction of the price, the I35 puts in a top-notch, nicely balanced performance.
I was expecting good things from the Primare I35, but frankly this one has me stumped. How did Primare make something this good... and it really is good! Beyond this price point you are more likely to get 'more' instead of 'better'.
If ever there was a product that exhibits the notion that 'the whole is greater than the sum of the parts' it's the Primare I35 Prisma. Tonally, the I35 Prisma is rich and satisfying rather than bright and breezy, and yet it comes over as both energetic and dynamic sounding.

No, the I35 runs remarkably cool thanks to Primare's UFPD 2 Class D amplification, which operates at over 90% efficiency. Unlike traditional Class AB amplifiers that convert excess energy into heat, the I35 wastes very little power. You should still allow a few inches of ventilation above and behind the unit as Primare recommends, but it will not heat up your equipment rack the way a similarly powerful Class AB amp would.
