The Grimm Audio MU2 Digital Music Streamer is the brain, heart, and soul of a reference-grade two-channel system. Designed to deliver exceptional audio performance in a compact, elegant chassis, the MU2 unifies high-end streaming, proprietary DAC technology, and analog preamplification into one of the most sophisticated all-in-one solutions available. Whether you're running a pair of ultra-sensitive tube monoblocks or high-power solid-state amplifiers, the MU2's precision, musicality, and versatility make it the ideal control center for your setup.

Integrated System Design

The MU2 brings together every component a high-end digital front end needs: a Roon Labs server, a reference-class DAC, and a true analog preamplifier with relay-based volume control. Because these elements are engineered to work together with perfect synergy, the MU2 avoids the signal degradation and impedance mismatches common in multi-box systems. This isn't modular. It's masterful integration, optimized for transparency, timing, and emotional impact.

Analog Control, Digital Precision

At the core of the MU2 is its discrete relay volume control. This isn't a digital volume gimmick. It's a high-precision analog attenuator that preserves the full dynamic range of your source, whether you're streaming DSD files or spinning records via the analog inputs. This ensures a rare achievement for digital-centric products: uncompromised signal fidelity at any listening level.

Connection Versatility

Whether your system is fully balanced or single-ended, the MU2 is ready. With 2 analog inputs (XLR and RCA), 3 digital inputs (AES, SPDIF, Optical), and analog RCA and XLR outputs, it integrates easily into nearly any setup. There’s even a headphone jack, making this a formidable standalone unit for personal listening.

The Major DAC

Grimm Audio's Major DAC is the product of three years of intensive R&D, balancing the strengths of multi-bit, single-bit, and PWM designs. The result is a 1.5-bit PWM DAC with an 11th-order noise shaper that operates in perfect stability. High-frequency noise is removed with a 16-tap FIR DAC topology, preserving signal purity across the entire dynamic range. At the input stage, Grimm's "Pure Nyquist" digital filter runs at 128x base rate, setting the stage for unprecedented micro-detail and resolution.

Unlike conventional DACs, the Major DAC achieves flawless noise shaping without introducing the harshness or instability often associated with high-order designs. It delivers sound that is precise without being clinical, rich without being veiled. The fully symmetric analog signal path and ultra-stable power supply ensure that nothing is lost between the DAC and your amplifier.

  • 11th order flawless Noise Shaping
  • 1.5bit architecture, 1bit cell, at 512fs rate
  • 128fs Pure Nyquist oversampling principles used throughout
  • Smart, extended settling technology
  • Intersample overs supported without clipping
  • 16-tap FIR-DAC topology
  • Fully symmetric analog signal path
  • Ultra stable local power supply technology

Michael & the MU2 - Brilliant

First of all I'd like to give Michael a shout out for his continued advice, support, and no BS buying process. Hard to place a value a great dealer provides as we navigate this hobby. On to the MU2, in a word, brilliant. I use all of its features; pre/DAC/Roon Core/streamer/server and while it's a joy to use, the sound quality makes it one of the most significant system purchases I've made. While it isn't "cheap," I'd say at its asking price for what it does and how it does it, it's a no brainer if you value digital playback accompanied by a pristine preamp.
