The Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 uses the same 40mm composite drivers and Class A/B amplification as the $299 P100 SE. At $179, you're getting Cambridge Audio's flagship headphone hardware, 100-hour battery life, aptX Lossless Bluetooth, and hybrid ANC at the lowest price from any authorized dealer.
Limited quantity, limited time. This is the outgoing non-SE version with identical drivers, amp, codecs, battery, and ANC. The only differences are the SE's DynamEQ software feature and updated app presets. Once these sell out, this product is gone and the P100 SE starts at $299.
Key Features:
Cambridge Audio has been building hi-fi amplifiers in Britain since 1968. The P100 applies five decades of amplifier engineering to personal listening, with Class A/B amplification topology borrowed from Cambridge's integrated amps. User-replaceable batteries and modular design prioritize longevity over disposability, the same philosophy behind their legendary amplifiers that run for decades.
The P100 uses lightweight aluminum for the earcups and frame, with memory foam pads covered in soft vegan leather. Unlike most wireless headphones, the battery and ear pads are user-replaceable with standard tools, dramatically extending useful lifespan. The headphones don't fold, which sacrifices some portability but increases structural rigidity and long-term durability. The included hard-shell case provides protection without adding excessive bulk.
Class A/B amplification powers 40mm dynamic drivers built from a three-layer composite of polyurethane sandwiched between PEEK (PolyEther Ether Ketone). This material combination delivers controlled bass response with fast transient attack. The amplifier topology is the same design philosophy Cambridge uses in their home amplifiers, prioritizing low distortion and dynamic headroom over efficiency. aptX Lossless support provides bit-perfect transmission from compatible Android devices, while the 7-band EQ allows personalized tuning without degrading source quality.
The P100 SE launched at $299 with one meaningful addition: DynamEQ, a software feature that automatically adjusts bass and treble response when you're listening at low volumes. It follows Fletcher-Munson curve principles, the same psychoacoustic science built into high-end AV receivers. Cambridge also added genre-specific EQ presets to the updated Melomania Connect app.
Everything else is shared hardware. Same 40mm PEEK/PU/PEEK composite drivers. Same Class A/B amplification. Same aptX Lossless and Adaptive codec support. Same 100-hour battery with user-replaceable cells. Same six-microphone hybrid ANC. Same 80ms gaming mode. Same aluminum-and-memory-foam build.
If you listen at moderate to full volume most of the time, DynamEQ won't change your experience. The P100 at $179 delivers the same acoustic hardware for significantly less than the SE.
Six microphones handle adaptive hybrid ANC with three selectable intensity levels (low, mid, high) plus transparency mode. Qualcomm cVc echo-canceling technology processes call audio separately from music playback. The ANC system is effective but not aggressive, targeting low-frequency rumble and midrange chatter without creating uncomfortable pressure or audible artifacts. Transparency mode provides natural ambient awareness for safety and conversation.
Battery life reaches 100 hours with ANC disabled or 60 hours with ANC active. A five-minute quick charge provides 4 hours of playback (ANC off) or 2 hours (ANC on). The battery is user-replaceable, so when it eventually degrades after years of use, you can install a fresh cell instead of discarding the entire headphone. Bluetooth 5.3 provides stable wireless connection, and a 3.5mm jack adapter enables wired analog use when preferred.

best sound quality per dollar in the wireless ANC class ... is easily one of the best sound quality per dollar values
,Recording Now · August 2025
There is an abundance of elite-sounding wireless headphones available for under $300. However, the Melomania P100 make the strongest case for the best option at their price point. Music and movies have loads of definition and depth, and ANC gives bass a noticeable boost, while also removing a high number of unwanted noises.
