The Cambridge Audio Edge S is a limited-edition floorstanding speaker handmade in Cambridge's London facility to celebrate the company's 1968 founding. Only 68 pairs were built worldwide. We have the final two.

Limited Stock: Last two pairs of 68 ever produced, exclusively at The Listening Room.

Final production stock. Six months of factory warranty remaining.

Cambridge engineers spent years refining the Edge series philosophy: eliminate distortion before it starts. The Edge S is the speaker expression of that work, paired to the Edge A integrated amplifier and Edge W power amp that defined the company's flagship line. Four drivers in an acoustically inert resin cabinet with non-parallel sculpted walls, a CNC-milled aluminum plinth, and Cambridge's new Continuous Profile Cone (CPC) midrange and woofer technology.

Key Features of the Cambridge Audio Edge S

  • Limited to 68 pairs worldwide: Built to commemorate Cambridge Audio's founding in 1968. Each pair ships with a numbered limited edition certificate.
  • Aspirated Tweeter Technology (ATT): A 25mm aluminum dome sits in a freely floating, vented diffuser that lets the rear wave breathe instead of compressing into a closed chamber. Eliminates the coloration typical of conventional sealed tweeters.
  • Continuous Profile Cone (CPC) drivers: One 4-inch CPC mid/bass and two 6.5-inch CPC woofers, each circled by a CNC-machined aluminum ring that decouples the driver from the cabinet for cleaner dispersion.
  • Acoustically inert resin cabinet: Polyurethane resin chassis with sculpted, non-parallel internal surfaces. Resists resonance and standing waves that color the sound of conventional MDF boxes.
  • Solid aluminum plinth: CNC-milled base with spiked feet provides a rigid mechanical ground that prevents cabinet motion from bleeding into the floor.
  • Frequency response 35Hz–30kHz: Full-range bass extension without subwoofer support; ultrasonic top end that captures the air around cymbals, strings, and vocal sibilants.
  • Lunar Grey finish: Hand-finished metallic silver-grey, the only finish offered on the Edge S.
  • Copper-plated, single-wirable binding posts: High-conductivity terminals built for bare wire, banana, or spade connections.

True Limited Edition

The number 68 isn't marketing. It's the year Cambridge Audio was founded in a basement on King's Parade in Cambridge, England, by engineers determined to make British hi-fi accessible. Sixty-eight pairs of Edge S were built, one for each year between that beginning and the speaker's release. When they're gone, they're gone. There won't be a second run.

The Aspirated Tweeter, Explained

Most dome tweeters fire forward into the room and trap their rear wave inside a small sealed chamber behind the dome. That trapped energy reflects back through the dome, smearing transients and adding a characteristic ringing that hi-fi listeners learn to tolerate. The Aspirated Tweeter solves the problem mechanically: the 25mm aluminum dome sits on top of a vented diffuser that lets the back wave dissipate freely. The result is faster transient response and a more open top end that doesn't soften or grain at high SPLs.

Continuous Profile Cone

The 4-inch mid/bass and the two 6.5-inch woofers all use Cambridge's new Continuous Profile Cone, a single-piece cone with a smoothly curved profile that eliminates the abrupt transition between cone and surround found in conventional drivers. Each CPC is surrounded by a CNC-machined aluminum ring that decouples the driver basket from the cabinet face, so the cabinet wall doesn't act as a secondary radiator. The combination produces cleaner dispersion and lower distortion at high output levels.

The Cabinet Is Not a Box

Cambridge cast the Edge S chassis from polyurethane resin instead of building it from MDF panels. Every internal surface is sculpted on a curve. There are no parallel walls anywhere inside the cabinet to set up standing waves. The non-parallel construction makes the enclosure mechanically inert at the frequencies music lives in. The base is a single-piece CNC-milled aluminum plinth with spike feet that couple the speaker rigidly to the floor.
