Description

One hundred and ten pounds of center channel speaker. The Vienna Acoustics Poetry is a full-range, three-way center channel from the Klimt series, Vienna's flagship line. It uses the same patented Flat-Spider-Cone coincident driver found in The Music, a 7-inch flat midrange with a hand-coated silk dome tweeter mounted at its center, flanked by dual 9-inch X3P Spider-Cone woofers in independently ported enclosures. At 36 inches wide and reaching down to 32 Hz, Poetry is designed for systems where the center channel has to keep pace with full-range floorstanders, not just fill in dialogue.

Key Features of the Vienna Acoustics Poetry
  • Flat-Spider-Cone Coincident Driver: 7" flat midrange with integrated 1.1" hand-coated silk dome tweeter (neodymium motor) for true point-source imaging and phase-coherent output across the vocal range
  • Dual 9" X3P Spider-Cone Woofers: Individually ported via large rear-mounted reflex ports, housed in their own decoupled bass enclosures to isolate low-frequency energy from the midrange
  • Klimt Series Voicing: Designed as the reference center channel match for The Music flagship floorstander, with shared driver technology and tonal character
  • Three-Way System with Integrated Subwoofers: 32 Hz to 20 kHz full-range response at 90 dB sensitivity and 8 ohms, eliminating the need for a separate subwoofer in many rooms
  • LCR Capable: Can be deployed as a horizontal center channel or in a left-center-right configuration with three units, or as surround channels
  • Handcrafted Austrian Cabinet: Available in Piano Black or Sapele real-wood veneer, with precision-engineered internal bracing
  • Optional Dedicated Stand: Purpose-built 90 lb steel stand (36" x 18" x 23") with adjustable spikes for proper height alignment with The Music or other full-range floorstanders
The Coincident Driver: Why Poetry Sounds Different

Most center channel speakers use separate tweeter and midrange drivers positioned side by side, which creates phase and timing differences at the crossover point. Poetry takes a fundamentally different approach. Vienna Acoustics' patented Flat-Spider-Cone places the 1.1" silk dome tweeter at the exact acoustic center of the 7" flat midrange driver, creating a true coincident (coaxial) source. Both drivers radiate from the same point in space, which means the sound arrives at your ears with correct phase and timing regardless of where you sit. For a center channel, where dialogue clarity and imaging stability across a wide seating area are critical, this architecture is a significant advantage over conventional multi-driver layouts. The neodymium-driven tweeter extends smoothly into the midrange frequencies, while the flat midrange cone provides the dispersion control that keeps voices locked to the screen.

Bass Architecture: Independent Enclosures, Serious Output

Each of Poetry's 9-inch X3P Spider-Cone woofers sits in its own sealed bass enclosure, mechanically decoupled from the coincident driver section. This isolation prevents woofer energy from vibrating the midrange enclosure, keeping vocals and instruments clean even during heavy bass passages. Each woofer has its own large rear-mounted reflex port, allowing independent tuning. The result is bass response down to 32 Hz from a center channel speaker, which means Poetry can reproduce the full weight of a film soundtrack or orchestral recording without rolling off where it matters. The 8-ohm impedance and 90 dB sensitivity make it straightforward to drive, though quality amplification from 50 to 300 watts is recommended to take full advantage of the dynamic capabilities.

Poetry vs. Theatro: Choosing the Right Vienna Acoustics Center

Vienna Acoustics offers two center channel speakers. The Theatro uses Concert Grand series driver technology (Composite Cone woofers and a separate silk dome tweeter) and is the natural partner for the Beethoven Concert Grand or Baby Grand Reference systems. Poetry is the Klimt series center, built around the coincident Flat-Spider-Cone driver shared with The Music, and is the correct match for Klimt-based systems. The key sonic difference: Poetry's coincident driver produces point-source imaging that conventional two-driver centers cannot match, while its dual 9-inch woofers provide substantially more bass output and dynamic headroom than Theatro's smaller drivers. If your front speakers are Klimt series, Poetry is the only center channel that maintains the family voicing.

Vienna Acoustics Poetry Stand

Standard orders ship without the stand. If you would like the stand, please choose that variant. The purpose-built Poetry Stand weighs 90 lbs and provides a stable, vibration-isolated platform at the correct height for alignment with The Music and other full-range floorstanders. Stand dimensions: 36" W x 18" H x 23" D (920 x 580 x 580 mm including spikes).

Explore the Vienna Acoustics Klimt Series

Poetry is part of Vienna Acoustics' flagship Klimt series, named for the Viennese painter Gustav Klimt. The Music is the series' reference floorstander. The Kiss is the Klimt bookshelf/surround speaker. And Poetry completes the system as the dedicated center channel, with matching driver technology and voicing across all three models.

Reviews

These are all big speakers, especially the Poetry center. It's huge, at more than 3 feet wide and almost 2 feet deep. It weighs 110 pounds, plus an additional 90 pounds for the stand. All of these speakers share custom-built drivers designed by Vienna Acoustics and manufactured by Eton of Germany. They include the unique, patented 7-inch Flat Spider Cone coincident midrange/tweeter and the 9-inch NAWI clear-coned bass driver.

FAQ

What is the difference between the Vienna Acoustics Poetry and the Theatro center channel?

Poetry is from the Klimt series (Vienna's flagship line) and uses the patented Flat-Spider-Cone coincident driver, where the tweeter is mounted at the center of the midrange for true point-source imaging. It also has dual 9-inch woofers reaching 32 Hz. The Theatro is from the Concert Grand series and uses Composite Cone drivers with a separate silk dome tweeter. Poetry is the correct center channel match for Klimt speakers like The Music. Theatro matches Concert Grand speakers like the Beethoven Concert Grand Reference.

Does the Poetry need the dedicated stand?

The stand is optional. Poetry can be placed on any sturdy surface that positions it at the correct height relative to your main speakers and screen. However, the purpose-built Poetry Stand (90 lbs, steel construction with adjustable spikes) provides optimal height alignment with The Music floorstanders and isolates the speaker from surface vibrations. Standard orders ship without the stand; choose the 'With Poetry Stand' variant if you want it included.

Can the Vienna Acoustics Poetry be used as a main left/right speaker instead of just a center channel?

Yes. Vienna Acoustics designed Poetry to be used in a left-center-right (LCR) configuration with three units, as surround channels, or as a standalone center channel. With 32 Hz bass extension, 90 dB sensitivity, and 110 lbs of cabinet, it has the output and bandwidth to serve as a full-range main speaker in a horizontal orientation.

What amplifier does the Vienna Acoustics Poetry need?

Poetry is rated for 50 to 300 watts at 8 ohms with 90 dB sensitivity. The 8-ohm impedance makes it friendlier to drive than many high-end speakers. Most quality multichannel or stereo amplifiers in the 100+ watt range will drive it well. For home theater use, match the amplifier power to what you are using on your main channels to maintain consistent dynamic headroom across the front soundstage.

What is a coincident driver and why does it matter for a center channel?

A coincident (or coaxial) driver places the tweeter at the exact acoustic center of the midrange driver, so both radiate from the same point in space. This eliminates the phase and timing differences that occur when separate drivers are placed side by side. For a center channel, this is particularly important because dialogue clarity and imaging stability must hold up across a wide seating area. With a conventional center channel, listeners seated off-axis hear different arrival times from the tweeter and midrange. Poetry's coincident driver maintains consistent imaging regardless of seating position.
